Tyanno needed to get out of the house after all that studying. So he went the the mountains, where really niether him nor Alezand had been before. Alezand was off doing something with Adrienne, so he was on his own. Which was very well anyway. He needed to focus on his powers and the lessions he had been studying. He had so much information that he had just absorbed over the last few days. Now was maybe a time to test his skills to see what he had learned from both the book and the lession that Alezand taught him back in the forest awhile back. Up the rugged paths he strode, a pack over his back, his bow and quiver too. And a walking stick, one of the many that Alezand had carved for such treks. He came up to a smaller outcropping, where he had a grand view of the surrounding land and kingdom. He stopped and took in the sight of his adopted home. he was sitting there, wondering about the trouble of the divided city when...

he was sitting there, wondering about the trouble of the divided city when...
With a barely audible scraping sound, what would at first glance appear to be a pile of rocks and debris on the mountainside detached itself from where it stood. The creature bore the appearance of a very large lizard, approximately the size of a dog. It passed unnoticed mainly due to the fact that it was covered in rough, irregularly shaped scales; texture and color matching that of the surrounding terrain to that made it appear nothing more than a pile of rubble when not moving.
Now that it sensed prey, sickly yellow eyes opened and could be spotted among those scales, even as it slowly began to drag it's bloated form across the ground towards the mage on four scaly legs, letting out a low hiss as it began to pick up speed and close distance.
Some distance away, a figure, garbed in ragged black robes, sat concealed behind a rocky outcropping, seeing through his creations eyes and directing it via his own thoughts to attack.

Tyanno was contemplating how Alezand was getting on with Miss Adrienne, when the hair on the back of his neck stood on end in that tell tale, instinctive sign that something bad wasabout to happen. It was then that he heard a very low hiss behind him and immediately he shoot to his feet, spinning around to see what had been creeping up on him. The reptile was a mottly conglomerate of scales and camoflage. Its hide so resembling the rocks about it, he wondered if it was composed of stone. What it was, Tyanno couldn't place. It didn't look like any beast that he studied, magical or otherwise. Running down his mental list of powers often found in magical reptiles, he didn't like his options. He crouched, and waited for the creature to make the first move, still unaware of another, more sinister being watching...

"Perfect, my pet. The silly little human doesn't seem to want to act rashly, thus awaits our attack, now doesn't it? Smash it." He commanded the creature, without speaking a word, instead allowing his thoughts to perforate throughout its simple mind.
Closing the distance between them quickly, the beast didn't do a complete headlong charge into Tyanno as might be expected. Instead, when it came to within striking distance, the creature planted its feet firmly in mid-stride, skidding around in an arc so as to face itself away from the mage.
Yet it was no chance break for the mage, as in the process it lashed out with its powerfully muscled tail, revealing near the tip a small patch of wicked-looking barbs protruding form among it's scales that were glistening with some unknown substance.

Akai was walking along the path, and noticed something move quickly. She wasn't sure what it was, but she was sure she had seen it. After all, she didn't have eyes like her master's. She would have to suffice at getting closer, and trying to see what it was doing from there. Silently, she climbed a nearby rock, so as not to disturb whomever that might have been, and saw a strange lizard, the likes of which she had never seen before, attacking someone. Her first instinct was to jump into the fray, and attempt to defeat the lizard, but she thought better of it. It would tear a hole through her in seconds. But still, she couldn't break her gaze away from the spectacle before her. She stared intently as the creature sped towards the man, not even blinking as it whipped its tail around. This could be quite the show...

Tyanno caught the sight of the spines just in time. His reflexes, honed from his travels with Alezand, were flawless for the moment. He leapt cleanly over the sweeping tail of the creature and landed on its far side. He rolled with the landing and came up ready, a short distance away. Given his knowledge of reptiles, and the fact that this one had the sprawling gait of all the rest, Tyanno knew that the beast would not be able to turn around or change direction as quickly. Using this and distance would be his advantage, he hoped. He didn't want to use his powers until he was sure of the lizards capabilities and that he could effect the monster. Holding one hand poised, he was ready to deliver a blast when the time called for it. He didn't want to waste his endurance on his powers if they weren't going to do any damage. Unfortunately, by the looks of the critter's hide, his bow was not going to be of use. Just as well, as he had yet to infuse his growing powers in those shafts like he desired. And he was a mage. Best to fight like one...

Akai kept herself hidden behind the rock, and watching the man and the creature fight, she couldn't help but think that it seemed awfully smart for just a beast, as if someone was controlling it, or at the very least, giving it orders. She remembered when she was in her village's militia-army. The horses had been trained to repond to whistles. Still, that aside, the creature was far too intelligent for it to be just a beast. She continued to stand such that just the top of her head was above the rock formation she hid behind, and also such that, though she didn't know it, the demon caller was opposite her, on the other side of the battle. She couldn't see him, but she did guess at his existence.
Akai watched the man jump clean over the beast, and smiled, wondering how long he thought to last, using such wasteful movements. He had all the skill and grace of a three-legged dog. At least, this was as Akai saw it. She thought to herself about how her master would have already destroyed the creature by now. She couldn't help but want to join in, or at least shout words of correction at the skill-less one. She wondered if she might be able to help, given the circumstances. The hide of the creature was almost like the rocks she stood on, from what she could see. She doubted her ability to even put dent in it's hide, though maybe if she... She snapped back to reality, questioning for just what purpose was she creating strategy? She knew she could never match master, nor could she ever create such elaborate strategies as he did.
Still, she sat and watched him, wondering what he was thinking as this beast lunged at him. She couldn't help but try to guess what he was thinking. Maybe he, too, wondered whether or not he could pierce it's hide, with the bow on his back. She wonedered if he thought to fight it with that stick, but quickly dismissed that thought. Even a novice isn't that stupid. She wondered, as he still seemed ready to fight, what sort of tricks he had up his sleeves, if perhaps he was thinking of her own strategy. She looked around, and much to her pleasure, found exactly what she needed for this strategy to work...

The mage had managed to avoid its sweeping tail, yet when he leapt over the creature he would find himself right back at a new danger. For just as the beast had swung around to strike at him, his leap now caused him to be staring at the beast in the face once more. Still, anything was better than to be facing that spiked tail, wasn't it?
"Good, my minion, you do well," Rylith spoke to it's mind, plotting ahead and attempting to get a grasp of how the mage would generally react to his attacks, "Mel the flesh from his bones now." he commanded, never once looking around his own surroundings to spot the girl perched far above his beast.
After his command, the beast gave an involuntary shudder as it began to do what appeared to be retching, as if it would vomit right where it stood. After a couple of heaves, a greenish-tinged viscous substance began to slowly drip from it's scaly maw, the spots where they landed upon the ground hissing violently as the substance ate swiftly through the earth that it came into contact with.
Raising its head to stare directly at Tyanno, it spat a glob of the same acidic substance at the mage.

Akai found herself slightly disgusted with the battle's new turn of events. Maybe if the man was doing bad, she would interfere, but until then, she was taking it upon herself to not even move any more than blinking and breathing. She forced herself not to give in to stomach convulsions, as the lizard began to vomit. When she saw that it was an acidic substance that it was spitting, her stomach ceased bothering her, and she began to think of how she was going to get to her objective unseen. It wasn't that far off, sure, but moving there would put her in plain sight for just a fraction of a second, but that fraction would be enough to alert the supposed beast-master of her presence. Then again, if the beast had no master, it might just ignore her, and she would be useful. Maybe, she would wait until this beast master came into the open, hoping that he could not savour the kill properly through the beast. Then again, if the beast had no master, killing the beast would end it. She deabated her next move, and as she sat there, the beast launched the foul acidic drool at Tyanno. Hopefully she could ascertain what she wanted to know before the man was too badly injured. She decided that, at the very least, she should wait until the beast had turned it's back, and then make her move.
OOC: Ack! Crap! Too short!

It was lucky that Tyanno anticipated an attack of a different kind. After all, this was no ordinary lizard. So one would err on the side of caution if he was smart. Tyanno liked to think of himself somewhat intelligent, if not impulsive. As the glob of strong acid launched at him, he brought his hand up and disappated it with a swift jet of water. It didn't take much, so it didn't wear on his endurance so much. More on his concentration. He had acknowledged the presence of a unknown warrior, but his battle focus was strong, and he paid little attention to her so long as she posed no new threat. He readied his hand again, wondering what the next trick would be as he backed up slowly. Maybe if he could find a soft spot... but then his attention turned for a second to the unstable terrain. Alezand had always said use the battleground to your advantage...

It took all Akai could muster not to make a sound as the jet of water came forth from the mage's hand. A mage, huh? That would explain his poor form and wasteful movements. He couldn't be expected to be a master if he was a mage. What bothered her was, though, that in her village, only the women were mages. Maybe that didn't apply here. She could no longer sit idly by, and readied herself to run the instant that the creature turned its back. She didn't want to see this man killed by the lizard before them. She looked the man directly in the eyes for an instant. She made a quick sweeping motion across the lizard, and pointed to her head. She hoped that this would get the point of her observations across. She Grabbed her staff, and crouched down, waiting for a moment when she had enough time to get across the clearing, and behind the boulder, where her objective lay. She couldn't help thinking that he might be injured if she didn't do something soon.
She looked across to the boulder. It was roughly the size of a large person, and would provide sufficient cover if she made it across. She just needed to get across without being seen. That was the tricky part. She looked once more to the mage. The beast didn't seem to have acknowledged her presence, so maybe if the mage distracted it... Yes, that would have to work. The problem was that the lizard would hear if she decided to shout her plan, so she hoped the mage would think of the same strategy.

Rylith had his focus, thus his beast also had its own focus and that focus was Tyanno. Other skulking warriors mattered little to the demoncaller so long as they would never figure out his location, which he highly doubted they would, as it would be quite a stretch of the imagination to randomly assume that every beast one finds on a mountain is controlled by an outside source.
The lizard hissed it's displeasure at being thwarted once again and responded simply by launching another glob of acid, as eventually it was certain to make one through the mages defense and hit him with the highly corrosive saliva that would make him all but defenseless to stop the beast from receiving it's meal.

Maybe it was just her. Akai looked at the beast once more, before concluding that it was the perfect time to make her move. She ran across the opening silently, though as fast as she could. She sat behind the boulder, and peered around the corner. The beast seemed too wrapped up in fighting Tyanno. It should have reacted by now, but it didn't. It's focus was entirely on Tyanno. That seemed odd to her, that a mere beast could be that focused. That also couldn't help but wonder if her joking thought was actually true. She decided that a higher vantage point was probably the way to go, and so she climbed again, this time even higher, and she used the boulder to get a better view. She still barely peeked over the top, not wanting to attract attention, and she saw a shadow on the other side of the battle field. It was probably just a tree, but she still watched the area for movement. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was controlling that beast. She began to lift herself higher, as the beast launched its second acid ball at the mage...

OCC, Sorry, have been busy with Army stuff.
Tyanno dodged the gob as it came at him but it was a near miss. The acid ate away at the sleeve of his tunic that it caught the edge of. He glanced at it to ensure that did no bodily harm. He then returned his attention to the monster. This beast was persistent. It focused entirely on him. In a way it unnerved him, but it also gave him hope. A creature not easily distracted was in turn distracted from its surroundings.
Tyanno shot a ice ball at the creatures head, whipping it as hard as he could. He wanted to see how the creature would react to the counter attack rather than really trying to damage, but any inflicted would be welcome. He studied the creature hard to see if its hide was cover in those spines or just its tail was armed with the points. He had a dangerous backup plan, but it would surely work if his calculations were correct...
