Elsemir kept walking through the crags of the mountains and towards the south pass.
It was supposedly very easy to traverse this time of year. He thought of his past life and the life that lay ahead.
He enjoyed it in a weird sort of way, the memories and his future seemed to perfectly together when he thought about it.
He noticed that the pair of eyes had gone.
Their awful presence was sickly; he was almost vomiting at the last encounter.
“But now I am happy, and soon I shall be always in this mood, low I shall enjoy the morning sunrise with new vigour and mourn the sleep that stops my waking, All that needs to come to pass is the finding of my family.”He stopped as he came around the corner of a large boulder.
A small band of goblin warriors limbered over a body of a fallen comrade.
His shattered spine was obvious due to his bodily contortions.
A few rumbles of dialect filtered through the air to Elsemir who had hidden behind the boulder.
He checked around the corner of the boulder to see a riot, the largest goblin was pointing to a silver shield and giving angry glares to his lesser kin.
The smaller ones seemed to scream at the largest one, also claiming ownership of the trinket.
A small plucky goblin made the false move of jumping at the larger one who struck the small figure with a fist and sent him into a rock, killing him on impact.
The three remaining small ones kicked off, they launched themselves at their leader.
Elsemir watched in horror as the ball of goblins gauged, kicked, bit, screamed and killed their way into a riot.
Their voices pierced the sky with howls of anger and pain.
Eventually a smaller goblin pulled out a knife and stuck it into the leader chest.
He convulsed with the blow to his chest and fell still.
His small assassins left his corpse and returned to the shield.
Only two remained now.
The murderer and the one who had brought his leader into position for the final blow.
The killer pulled the shield from the first body and disregarded the rest.
He went over to his victim and removed his dagger.
Blood spurted out with crimson delight.
Elsemir sat with baited breath as the two plundered the bodies.
Then they shrieked and fled up the mountain side for no apparent reason.
Peering around the corner and saw a faint outline in the distance, where the goblins had been.
He caught a faint glimpse at the haunting figure before it disappeared.
“Master!”
He cried but it was too late, he was gone.
