A fine day... for thievery?

[Shadow]

Shadow was in his usual spot, leaning against the wall, browsing the crowd for anyone that looked wealthy, pompous, or stupid, as they were the easiest victims. It was a fine day for thievery, seeing as the weather conditions were beautiful, and the crowds were thick. Shadow inhaled deeply and sighed. "Another fine day for thievery." he muttered under his breath. one more look out into the crowd revealed someone promising...

[Mira Nightingale]

Mira was casually strolling through the city square, going no where in particular. The day was beautiful, and she had told her mother she was going shopping to be able to get out of the house. Because of that little lie, she had a pull purse of gold casually hanging in the crook of her right arm. It was purple, and matched her whole outfit minus a few shades. She had to match, after all.

She continued strolling absently through the square, deciding that she needed some goal for the day. Considering that her mother wanted her to spend money, she might as well go treat herself to something, a quick meal or some jewelry. Speaking of jewelry, she had seen a merchant with some back the other way…

Turning back the way she had come, she headed toward the Markey where all the merchants had set up their wares. She passed by a rather shady looking character standing by the wall that lead to one of the darker alleys, but she didn’t even notice the stranger.

He smiled and pulled up his hood. talking to himself, he cofirmed that the young lady was his target as he melted into the crowd. falling into step behind her, he had let his hood down, and his sleek black hair covered half of his face. stepping out from behind her, he fell into step next to her and noticed the purse hanging from her arm. He was about to reach out and grab it when he walked straight into a post sticking up from the ground. staggering away, he stumbled a bit and tripped, bumping into the young girl that he had tried to steal the purse from. Nose bleeding profusely and stars dancing around in his eyes, he couldnt regain his balance and fell flat on his face."woa-" mentally, he was cursing, but he did not betray any of his feelings with more than that. struggling to get back on his feet, he pinched his nose to stop it from bleeding. With luck, his nose would stop bleeding and he would be able to see straight enough for long enough... as he went over it in his mind, one thought came to him. "aw screw it." He sighed as he got up, but slipping in a puddle of water, he fell again. this time, straight into the girl he had just bumped into.

Mira had just taken a few steps when a stranger walked past her, and right into a poll, bumping into her in the process. Staggering just a bit she took a step away, but then when she saw what had caused the young man to trip, she took a few steps forward to help. Her help was in vain, however, as he slipped in a puddle of water and this time, fell right on top of her.

Not able to support his weight, Mira fell to the ground along with the stranger. Other than letting out a soft “Oof!” as she landed, she was all right. A few bruises at the most, and then even those would fade in a week or so. The current problem, however, was the young man on top of her, whose nose was steadily dripping blood onto the cobbled square, dangerously close to staining her dress.

She looked up at him, taking in his shady appearance and sleek black hair. He reminded her of a thief, for some reason, although she could tell that he was probably actually a mage because of the way he dressed. “I’m glad I was able to soften your landing, sir, but right now I would appreciate it if you could get off of me.” she told him bluntly, as she eyed his bleeding nose dangerously. Blood was difficult to get out of clothing, and she wasn’t about to spend the rest of her day with stained clothes.

Shadow groaned an apology as he stood up. Pinching his nose one final time, He extended a clean hand to the young woman who was now on the ground because of his foolishness and helped her to her feet. "im sorry miss, I was too preoccupied and didnt see where I was going...then ran into the pole, and fell."He Inclined his head, but instantly snapped it back and pinched his nose again. "Stupid nose..." He shoook his head slowly, and looked at the young woman. Looking on the ground, he saw something's reflection fall. Looking up, He cringed, pushing the young lady out of the way as an empty wooden tankard came flying from the building above them. catching it before it smacked him, he set it down beside him and stepped out of the path of the falling tankards. Sending a glare at the empty window the barrel came from, he wiped the blood off his face with a cloth from one of his pouches. "much better. I am Shadow, and Im sorry if I caused you any trouble." He laughed and held out her purse. "you dropped this by the way. back when I first bumped into you."

[Mira Nightingale]

“I noticed what happened.” she replied just a bit dryly in response to the stranger. She had seen it after all. Even though he wasn’t really at fault, she just couldn’t bring herself to be as pleasant as she usually was. He wouldn’t notice the difference, most likely.

She was suddenly startled as she roughly pushed her to the side, and she almost fell again. After regaining her balance and turning to glare at him, a large tankard fell where she was standing just a moment before. She stared at the tankard for a long moment, as all her bitterness about being bumped into faded away. He had just saved her from a massive concussion, or maybe even death. She opened and closed her mouth several times before she found the words she was looking for. “Thank you, stranger,” she said, dropping him a quick curtsey. “You just saved my life, most likely. I’m… really grateful.”

As he introduced himself as Shadow, and held out her purse and took it back, thankful once again. Opening it quickly, she checked to make sure nothing had fallen out. Everything looked exactly the same, so she closed it just as swiftly and slung it back over her arm. “It’s nice to meet you Shadow,” she said, “I’m Mira.”

[Shadow]

Shadow bowed, and smiled. "its all in the days work of a shapeshifter-to-be." he laughed. "oh, and By the way, I do theivery as a side job, but I can only steal from dishonest people." He nodded. "interesting name, mira..." he looked thoughtful for a moment. 'sounds familiar..." He shrugged. "ah, well my memory cant be helped. Do you have business in the city today?" He looked away for a moment, and coughed, releasing a blast of flame with each cough. turning back to Mira, he smiled weakly. "If my tounge becomes forked, please tell me." he turned away again, but this time, he looked up and released a blast of flame. He turned his head back, slightly embarrassed. "well, I know that there's a bad moon on the rise, but i didnt think it would have such an effect on me..."

Susan had watch shadow bump in to Mira twice the first time her purse was missing so she decided to investigate and see if she was right .At the time Susan was on duty and dressed as a rich cazilian in a silver ball dress wearing the best of her jewls.she walked over in time to hear the man admitting to be a theif "Stop right there" she shouted with her sword drawn she walked round to his front until her sword was at his throat "Is this man bothering you miss"she said"its all right you can tell me I am a watchwoman"she said with her sword still at the mans throat.

Shadow looked down and the sword at his throat. he rolled his eyes, and lightly pushed it out of the way with his hand. Looking at the owner, he laughed. "I just saved this young woman's life, I dont think that that is merit to end mine." he opened his mouth again, and released a jet of flame. it disappeared as he closed his mouth. shaking is head, he muttered to himself a bit. closing his eyes and glowing for a bit, he concentrated on de-transforming. opening his eyes again, he looked up into the sky and sighed. "great... well, at least the fire is under controll..." he turned his gaze at the watch woman. "ever seen a guy with wings?" As he said this, his wings opened.

Susan was smarter than that "why do they all ways run" she muttered as she wipped ot hand cuffs and chained him up with her "and yes I ve seen dragon,Gryfons ect"

[Shadow]

Shadow adjusted his wings and let the woman put cuffs on his hands. He closed his eyes. "look lady, what have i done to dessserve thisss? Hmmm? All I did wasss sssave her life and return a very heavy purssse, which I could have jussst asss easssily walked off with." He opened his eyes, spun, and looked her in the eye. "the cuffsss aren't necesssssary, but if you musst...." He shook his head. half to himself, he closed his eyes as he spoke. "Well, you are going for an interesssting ride. One that you wont forget very soon." With that, he grabbed the watchwoman's hand, the one that was chained to him, and jumped into the air. struggling a bit at first, a few powerfull sweeps with his wings got them both airborne. looking down at the woman who was attached to his hands, he laughed. "how isss the arial view of your city?"

"Not bad but gryfins have taken me higher"she said know ing soon he would drop lower and her horn would be herd.

((and by the way, When i put the extra "s(s)" its because he is halfway transformed and has a hiss in his voice. just so you know))

He sighed. "well, There are two thingsss I can do." he held up two fingers. "one, I can return you to the ground sssafely, and you can let an innocent mage go, or two, I can jussst drop you from here or higher." he shook his head. "it is your choice, but i sssuggessst chosssing wisssely and quickly, ssseeing asss my powersss are behaving ssstrangely today, We both could drop any minute, and then there would be a big messss." in the meantime, he flew higher. " and dont think of getting me ssshot down, becaussse then we both die, which is pointlessss" he looked around. they were almost at the roofline of the towers of the church. shadow laughed to himself. "my name is Shadow. who are you?"

"Susan" she said "Susan pevenise and theres no point in chosing either because when you jolted the keys fell out of my cape pocket and the other were both going down these are high durability they can clutch on to anything"she said worried "but I can offer an escape route the gaurds took aim when you lifted me up so I blow my horn the drop there wepons unless some lord orders them to fire first" she said.

Mira listened to Shadow, than watched the strangest thing she had ever seen unfold. Trying not to look confused, she replied to his earlier comments. “So… you were going to steal from me?” she asked him after a long moment, looking slightly hurt. “Maybe I shouldn’t have tried to help you, then.” Then he started coughing flames, mentioning something about forked tongues. “Why would your tongue become forked?” she asked, not really sure if she wanted to know the answer.

Then a woman who called herself a watchwoman sprung out of no where, holding her sword against Shadow’s throat. “No, other than being a little clumsy, he isn’t bothering me.” she told the woman, frowning slightly. Just as the words escaped her mouth, Shadow laughed and pushed the sword away, muttering about getting flames under control. Mira watched half in disbelief, half in amazement as Shadow spread his wings, which she hadn’t even seen before.

The woman, apparently unimpressed, handcuffed Shadow. Mira glared at her, raising her chin and preparing to be the haughty noble most thought she was. “Un-handcuff him, now! This man was not bothering me, and you have no right to be upsetting my day any further.” She told the woman, her temper starting to show. Just as she opened her mouth to say something else, however, Shadow’s voice turned reptilian, and then he took off into the air.

Watching them fly higher, Mira swore loudly, earning nothing but shocked glances from passerby. A lady of nobility wasn’t supposed to use foul language, after all. But there was nothing she could do as they soared higher, and guards took aim at them. For a moment she even wished that she was the one flying. That would definitely be an experience.
