The Dress That Seals My Fate

Shadow growled at the woman. "dont look at me like that, or you will regret it." He shook his head, restraining himself from stealing form the woman, something that he knew Mira wouldnt forgive him for. Shaking his head, he opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by the man who he had stolen from burst into the shop, pointing an accusing finger at Shadow. the man then went on to declare that Shadow had stolen his purse, and that he should be arrested immiadiately. Shadow sneered at the man, and laughed at the shocked look on Mira's mother's face. "So... it seems that I have been found out..." He threw his hood back, and his orange eyes were glistening. "Well, what are you going to do? You may not know it, but you" he pointed to Mira's mother. "Are in my debt. As for you" he pointed to the man who's purse was in his pocket. "I have allready spent the majority of your money, and seeing as you wont be getting it back from me, I suggest that you quit complaining and earn your way honestly, like i do." Turning to mira, he smiled."I assume that you havent told them about what i did for you."

Susan was forced by Law to arrest shadow by the shop attedndents were all ready raping him up in diffrent fabrics soon Susan had the cuffs out and was trailing him out of te shop "come by the prison later and collect you stuff"she said as she walked him out of the shop she wispered in his ear "do this quietly and i will realese you later."

Snarling at susan, he stepped back before she could place him under arrest. his orange eyes glowing, he snarled as he spoke. "Dont touch me. Dont even come near me with those foul metal bands, it will do you no good." Dodging over behind where mira was standing, he surveyed his escape options. they werent numerous. he could do one of three things. 1) he could take mira hostage, and walk out of the shop with his dagger at her neck. 2) he could use magic to scare everyone in the shop, but then he'd never be able to sho his face around the town, at least not for a while. 3) he could just go quietly and let susan arrest him, but then there would be a permanent record, and he had no intention of going to jail, even if it is just as a ruse. whispering to Mira, he kept his voice so only she could hear. "maybe, you can convince your mother to have me not arrested and the record cleared? either that or I take you hostage, not really of course, but there will be a knife at your throat, which I dont want to do. I am, unless they drag me out unconcious, going to go to jail, even if it is only for a short while. so do what you can, but if it dosent work, prepare to be leaving." he kept his dagger in his sleeve, ready to take action if someone decided to come and get him.

"Ladies"Susan said as the women risked there lifes to attack a theif they started to fight to get sissors amd thick ropes to tie him up Susan relised his options and the look on lord Alexanders face was telling her that jail was the only option she was not going to make a pernament record on him she was his friend or on there last encounter she wouldnt of healed him she pulled out a sleeping dart and shot him.

Shadow held up his hand as the dart approached, and infusing his hand with magic, he let the dart hit his hand. It bounced off. "I dont plan on being taken in to jail susan." He muttered. "not even for a short period of time. he stood, drew his dagger and sighed. "mira, I didnt want to do this, and I hope you'll be able to forgive me , but..." He turned, wrapped an arm around mira's waist, and pulled the dagger close to her neck. he leaned in and whispered in her ear. "act afraid, and go along with what I do." As he said that, he covered his blade with magic, dulling the knife's edge. still, it looked like he was about to stab her in the neck. "nobody move, or I will kill her." He put his back against the wall so no one could get around him. looking around, he shrugged to susan, and began to slide, back against the wall, making sure that no one moved so he wouldnt have to preform a humongous illusion, one that could leave him near death.

Susan was waiting for this she knew it when shadow sliped behind Mira "I know you are not going to harm her"she said taking a carefull step forward

[Shadow]

Shadow shook his head. he sent a thought to mira You'd better play along mira...as he addressed the rest of the group, he began Pressing the knife a little harder against Mira's neck and used magic to give the impression that he had just cut her. Except that the blood that was flowing down from where the knife's point was was real. "oh? Now, do as I kindly requested of you, and There wont be any reason to harm this fine specimin." he laughed, and begun to make his way to the exit once more. "ill ask again. Do not move, or the lady's main artery gets sliced."

"yawn a magicl blade with real blood nice touch" she said "but I was allmost assanated by a guy trieing to do that and your friends with Mira so you wont slit her throat"she looked ot the window and door at the back "Gaurds are here you cant escape"

((ummm... yeah. first off, NO ONE IN AVAREN KNOWS WHAT MAGIC IS! It's supposedly only an old wives tale, made up to scare little children. any avarenian would know that.))
Shadow sighed. Susan just wasn't going to cooperate. "well then, i will do what i must." he growled at Susan, and closed his eyes. "good bye all, Hope you don't remember me...except maybe Mira. she owes me and Chao dinner..." he disappeared. A puff of smoke formed around the man who shadow robbed, and once it dissipated, the man was facing the other way, a full purse at his hip, but his brow was wet with sweat, as if he had seen something terrifying. then there was the slight smell of sulfur that came from his blackened clothes, and his hair was all in disarray, singed in places.

A small, black piece of paper slipped itself into Susan's hand, and one into Mira's. the one that went to Susan said: I'm sorry I had to resist you, but if i went to jail, then Chao would come and break me out. I have returned the man his purse, and now i am going away. Remove any kind of record you are going to make about me and I wont be forced to destroy the jail.
The one that went to Mira was a bit different, and much shorter. it read:Sorry for the scare, but It was necessary. I'll be seeing you around.

[Mira Nightingale]

As Shadow growled at her mother, Mira frowned slightly. The woman was her mother after all, even though she did force her into this marriage. After that, several things seemed to happen at once. The robbed man burst into the store pointing at Shadow, Elizabeth gasped loudly, and Shadow asked Mira if she’d told them what he’d done for her. She shook her head no to indicate that she hadn’t, before turning as much as she possibly could to face her mother.

“He saved my life last week in the market.” she told her mother, getting another rather loud gasp. “A falling tankard from a high window landed exactly where I was standing before he moved me out of the way. At least let him go for that, please. A debt for a debt, and then all debts will be paid.” Except yours, mother dearest. she added silently, her lips curving into a knowing smirk, an expression she rarely ever had.

Susan proceeded to attempt to arrest Shadow, and then Shadow whispered something to her, pulled out a knife, and pressed it against her throat. She didn’t need to be afraid, since she was afraid. The yards of fabric that were pinned to her stretched in protest of being moved from their original places, but they held… for the moment. Yelping slightly, especially as the knife pressed harder into her throat and blood began to flow, she attempted to move away, but to know avail. Sending a pleading glare at her mother, who was now crying, she sniffed a bit, as if tears were starting.

And then, since the whole incident took less than a minute, Shadow was gone after being annoyed by Susan. A piece of paper landed in her hand, and without thinking she tucked it into her belt to read later.

Susan read the note she saw Mira sliping hers in her belt thinking it best to do the same she slid it in her pouch with the thought of how would he know if she had made a report she looked at the group "ladies hers for the damage he has done" she said and handed the seamstresses each a bag of gold the Gaurds burst in "its fine hes gon sir If you wish to press charges come with me but I advise you dont"she said looking at lord Alexander she then turned to Mira and her Mother "I am sorry if you dont like the way I run this city but magic or not that knife could still of killed you"she snaped at Mira "Mis the same about pressing charges is up to you"she said calmer to Miras Mother

[Mira Nightingale]

Mira, rather shakily, watched as the seamstresses greedily accepted the bags of money handed to them by Susan and her guard, as if they weren’t getting paid a fortune on the dress Mira was going to be buying. Then Susan spoke to Lord Alexander, asking if he would like to press charges, and then said the same to Lady Elizabeth.

Lord Alexander started stammering, saying that of course he wanted to press charges, and Mira’s mother responded with an indignant, “Of course I’m pressing charges! That man almost killed my daughter!” Elizabeth was crossing her arms, and a look of pure venom and a little touch of fear was in her eyes. Had she really been afraid?

With a soft, almost inaudible sigh, Mira rolled her eyes at Susan. “I never said a word about your way of running the city guards.” she snapped, shaking her head again as the seamstresses started bustling about her again, working with the fabric and what Shadow had almost ruined.

"fine Guards find Shadow and bring his to me"she said and the Gaurds left the shop swarming the city Susan drew up a poster and pinned it up on the wall

“What crimes against the crown did he commit?” Elizabeth asked Susan, a frown creasing the face she so carefully powdered in the mornings. “I’d say his crimes were against the people! Against the citizens! Against the Nightingale house!” she would have continued going, but she was silenced as Lord Alexander walked out, following the guards and seething to himself.

Mira sighed softly, then took in a shaky breath as the corset of her dress was tied. “Why can’t you just let him be?” she asked Susan, shaking her head softly. Poor Shadow. He was always being chased by someone.
