Something was cutting through the air and David almost turned his head too slowly to catch a glance of what it was. He followed it as the dagger hit the ground. He then glanced back to see broadsword weilding warrior. Relief filled David's body and he gave a smile and a nod in his direction approving the help that was given. He turned to face Drathzor once again this time with more confidence and a smirk of someone that knew the advantage was his. He was about to charge forward and let his spear thrust into the beast, but he stopped as he heard a voice.
Gazing beyond the creature, he saw a group of warriors and a warrioress that bared the insgnia of the queen. All of them had their bows drawn and pointing at Drathzor and the rest of the surrounding gnolls were already dead. She had spoken to the creature and now the beast surely dead no matter what. Thus he felt that he had no need to be here any longer. "I'll leave him to you." David spoke to the queen as a thought came to him, "I'm going to go check if any others have advanced in the city."
With those words, David left without any regard of what anybody else might've said and didn't fear Drathzor coming after him. He left the main battle front and eventually saw a cart that was being pulled by a gnoll that was loaded with various things which David surmised was a bunch of women since he could hear their plees for help. David charged at the gnoll that was pulling the cart and first swept him off his feet with the use of his spear. He lept into the air and thrusted his spear downward into the creature's chest cavity. He landed on the ground with his left leg bent slightly and pulled the spear out while holding the body down with his right foot. David gazed over the side of cart seeing what was inside of it. And just like he thought there was several women and bunch of objects that had various shininess. "Just stay here, you'll be safer in the cart for now than anywhere else." he told them and then started running towards the direction that the cart was coming from.

((This is odd.. Drathzor is busy fighting David; the one in the tavern, as Rianne incorrectly labeled, is Razdor... meh, one must learn to live with illiteracy ^.^))
Thus far, the attack had been going very well. With the exception of two towers, the entire length of Avaren's walls had been taken, but one problem remained - the Gnolls' numbers, only in the hundreds, were not enough to take the entire city. Unless... Another Gnoll commander, Reznar, was overlooking the city opposite the location of the main carnage. At his back was a group of twenty Cutthroats; all of them, by his orders, had brought bows and arrows instead of their usual slings. With the entire group stretched out along the wall, they began loosing arrows in volleys - directly over the main defending groups commanded by Thurel, David, and the Queen herself.
As this was happening, Reznar himself jumped from the wall, ordering the Gnolls to hold their ground and maintain fire until he returned. The Gnoll pulled something out of the sack he had brought with him - a bottle, taken from the caravan Gromesh and Ravok had died aquiring. Yanking the cork off, he broke into a house (slaughtering the two women inside) then, with a thigh bone propped tastily in his mouth, he tore off pieces of their dresses, stuffing them into that bottle, and into the seven others he had in his bag. Taking a candle with him, he proceeded to light each middle-aged Molotov cocktail, and set an entire block ablaze - before being cut down by an aged guard's bow. The deed was done, however; Avaren was lit up like a Christmas set.
While this happened, Razdor was busy commanding his own volley of slingers behind the makeshift tavern defenses. A loud, crashing sound suddenly filled his ears; with two Gnolls behind him and one in front, Razdor came sailing out of the tavern, a scorpion's deadly bolt now replacing their spleens.
Drathzor would not have so interesting a death; not yet at least. While propped up on a pile of bodies, getting ready to cut down the spear-wielding man before him, he failed to notice that the Avaren royalty had somehow appeared behind him; with a few shouts tossed over his head, he saw that David was turning to flee - the fool, he would only come face to face with two groups of more Gnolls on either side. Preparing to accept his death, Drathzor turned to the Queen, his teeth bared.. then came salvation. Over his head no longer flew shouts; this time, it was volleys of arrows, Gnoll-made by the looks of it, and they provided adequate cover for him to jump back into combat and catch up with David. Which is exactly what he proceeded to do.

The advantage of surprise was beginning to end for the Gnolls; their raiding party had been a success early on, but now with the defenses of Avaren rallying at focal points of the City; the tide was beginning to turn. Valdgaar was helpless as 4 of his ten comrades were cut down by arrows; all he could do was snarl in anger from whence the arrows had come from. However his snarling was cut short as his ears twitched, for something was approaching; an orderly line of soliders were slowly approaching the Gnolls and they had ranged weaponry as well as spears. Barking out a retreat, Valdgaar and his Gnolls turned tail and ran back the way they had come. And that was to a certain gate; the very same that Borfang was supposed to escape out of with the other ten Gnolls that Valdgaar had assigned to him To his outrage Borfang was dead, the cart had stopped, and a human was tampering with the prizes that his Comrades had died for. David was tampering with the wereguild of his fallen comrades and Valdgaar knew that in Gnoll law; that was one of the highest sins to steal a dead pack brother's belongings and/or loot. Howling in outrage, Valdgaar stampeded toward David as the Human ran at the Gate; like a massive bull Valdgaar ran, and bowled the smaller human over with his bulk. The thought of smashing David's skull in was ever present in the Gnoll's small mind, but there was also the prize to consider; if someone saved the women while Valdgaar dealt with David, then this raid would be entirely unsuccessful. So many mighty warriors would be cut down and there would be nothing to show what they had fought for. So instead of smashing in David's skull with his war hammer, Valdgaar smashed his left fist into David's face with enough force that it would render the average man unconscious. Then placing his war hammer back into it's sling on his back while moving to take over the cart, Valdgaar picked up the handles and ran like the Wind into the Forest; completing his escape. The Elders would be most pleased and much screaming would rent the surrounding air of the Forest that night. *-*-*-* Though there was a group of about 50 Gnolls that were still on the plain outside of the Wall; theses were reserves that were lead by a particularly fierce specimen known as Fenbrigd to his pack brothers. Fenbrigd was a scarred veteran of War; his missing left eye and right hand were testament of that. However he was a feared opponent and rightfully so; the stump of his right hand was replaced by a wicked claw of metal meant for shredding flesh and in his left hand the Gnoll wielded a falchion. Covered in a chestplate of iron and with an iron skull cap pulled over his head with ear holes on the top, Fenbrigd was a murderous sight to look upon. And the Gnoll Marauder squinted with his remaining eye as he strove to see what was happening along the Wall, but his hearing told him that. His brothers were dying and they need help immediately. Roaring as he raised his falchion high in the night sky, Fenbrigd charged the Gates with 49 other Gnoll Marauders, armed and armored to the teeth, following in his wake. Passing through the Gates, Fenbrigd's battalion easily smashed through a pitiful line of wavering swordsmen that tried to hold back the incoming wave. Fenbrigd gutted one swordsmen with his metal claw and lopped off the head of another with his falchion while his pack brothers massacred the other swordsmen. Biting into the neck of the headless corpse of his foe before it hit the ground, letting the blood of a foe intoxicate his body and drive him mad with battle lust, Fenbrigd threw back his head and howled up to the Night sky in triumph. Recklessly the Gnoll, followed by his comrades, threw themselves against the nearest group of humans on the streets of Avaren; which just so happened to be the Queen and her honor guard. The other 49 Gnolls threw themselves on the bow wielding guards, tearing most of them to shreds before they even had time to react. Fenbrigd, as fate would have it, was right in front of the Queen and with his falchion he smashed her bow into splinters. Recovering from his swing, Fenbrigd landed a monsterous kick into the Queen's chest and sent her flying backward. Barking in what could be considered laughter to a Gnoll, Fenbrigd barked out in English, "Looky here! Der Queenie is a veakling! One vould vonder how she manages to even lift her bow! And now she vill die to me, Fenbrigd!"

OOC: Sorry for complete noobishness earlier…I am sick so my head is a bit wonky and I don’t always say things straight and…yeah…X.X…sorry!
BIC: There wasn’t much time to react as the gnolls in front of her, the ones she had been threatening were being killed before her eyes so most of her and her guard dropped their guard a bit, bows slowly moving downward as she searched for her next target. That did not take much time to find as they were over-run quite suddenly by a very large group of gnolls compared to her numbers. To the Queen’s dismay, her guards were shorn through like they were no more then butter, leaving her to face one that looked monsterous and was definitely their leader. Rianne stumbled back as her bow was completely destroyed in front of her, but didn’t get much time as a kick landed to her chest, sending the Queen flying.
She hit the ground in the manner she had been taught, slapping her arm down to disperse the shock of hitting, but Rianne didn’t get up right away, but rather took a deep breath before pulling her disheveled self from the ground, turning to face the gnolls. There would be bruising there on her chest, but in the heat of battle when her land was in danger, and this town more specifically, there was no time to worry about that. Even after being tossed about in such a manner, Rianne still held herself with the poise and the attention of a monarch, someone who was not going to stand down for a filthy being like a gnoll coming into Avaren.
Without her bow, Rianne was left one choice, and one choice only and that was the rapier that hung at her side. It was a thin blade, meant for more speed and would be nearly useless against these gnolls, but she would not be without a weapon. There was no question in the fact that the Queen needed help, and she needed it as soon as it would come. Because alone Rianne could not stand against 50 gnolls, and against the head one, she stood little chance with this weapon. If she could find her way to one of the guard’s bows, then maybe. But that didn’t daunt her, she wasn’t going to stand down because she was severely outnumbered.
The rapier was drawn and she held it up in a guarded stance, her hand steady. There was minor skill with this blade, and she would see. “Forfeit in the name of Avaren.” She said simply, but continued on with no words. Rianne lunged at Fenbrigd with the rapier, betraying she was no weak Queen. But she wasn’t in good odds, so she would just have to fight until someone came to help.

Fenbrigd paused for a moment, his laughter dying on his face as the Queen got to her feet, but only renewed with greater mirth than before with her little announcment. "'Forfiet in the name of Avaren!'; oh dat really scary. Fenbrigd quivering in his boots, ya!", howled the Gnoll as his armored body shook with laughter; no one had such audacity to say any such thing to Fenbrigd before in his life and after the fighting he had been through, the veteran only chuckled in amusement. Still laughing as the Queen lunged at him with her rapier drawn, the mighty Gnoll didn't budge an inch when the blade made contact with him; in fact the desired effect didn't occur. The armor that Fenbrigd wore was heavier than it looked and when the point of the rapier made contact with it, it caused the thin blade to bend upward to mimic a rainbow.
This caused Fenbrigd to bellow out as loud as he could with belly laughs and in his metal claw, he grabbed Rianne's raiper where it bent the most and wrenched it out of her smaller hands. "You think dat little stick vill kill Fenbrigd?", roared the Gnoll in laughter and he tossed the blade back over his head as he advanced on Rianne. Still laughing madly, Fenbrigd backslapped the woman across the face and sent her back to the ground. Walking over to where she lay on the ground, Fenbrigd slammed his right foot on her chest none too gently; squishing her feminine body painfully as he leered down from above her.
"And now; Fenbrigd kill you. So give me a scream and I'll vill make your first vound quick."

Think of the dismay and the horror of the poor Queen as her blade did nothing more then bend like it were made of rubber, a grating noise of metal on metal as it made contact. And then to have the weapon tossed away like it was almost heartbreaking and Rianne stepped back eyeing the gnoll coldly with sharp grey eyes. She was in more danger now then before, even if she hadn't expected her weapon to do much. A hand made contact with her face, and was enough force to knock her to the ground again, a place she was coming to be familiar with. Before she could shove herself up again though, there was a foot being placed roughly and painfully on her chest, pinning her down to the ground.
Why were people such fools though, honestly. You could weigh a ton, but if you are shifting all of your weight into one single limb, it is very easy to become unbalanced. Rianne winced and bit the inside of her lip as she felt that pressure, and then used what she knew to do. Her hands went up to the booted foot of the gnoll and wrapped around it and at the same time the Queen shifted to the side. One little shift in balance, that was all she need to feel to get out. And as soon as she found it, Rianne took advantage of it and rolled to free herself of her painful captor and found herself able to breathe now that she didn’t have several pounds of a sweaty, gross, ugly, filthy, waste of flesh on her.
Just for good measure, a foot lashed out to the gnoll’s more private area as well before Rianne pulled herself in a crouching, and then standing position. Her grey eyes were scanning the area again until they rested upon a fallen guard’s bow, which she lunged to grab and backed up, knocking an arrow and pointing it at the gnolls as warning. Tick Tock. How long did she have before she needed help?

Not too long; as it so happened, Grilmesh, while in the act of seperating one of David's soldiers from their pancreas, noticed the woman's vile attack at a commander's groin. Throwing the pancreas away (and wiping stomach acid on the man's blank face before it started to burn), he bounded toward her, smashing his way through several Gnolls and humans alike. Once he was twenty feet away, Grilmesh brandished his two deadly sickles, both covered completely with blood. Letting out a piercing howl, his eyes flashed from the queen to Fenbrigd, and back once more to the queen. At this point, he had begun to approach her slowly, assured that at his back were a hundred Gnolls cutting down the human defenders; Grilmesh was not as witless as his marauding counterpart, and so he calculated each and every move before deciding on one for this 'Queenie'.
Reznar's group, which had been ordered to loose volleys of arrows on the unsuspecting defenders, had already run out; that, and the group of burning buildings standing before them let out far too much smoke to know where to shoot. Assuming their leader dead (for one of them said he had seen him killed on the streets below), the group charged back across the walls, ending up at a tower where Thurel was busy taking out Gnoll after Gnoll along the narrow walkway. What made it so easy for him was the fact that they were only coming from one direction; this new group sealed his fate, coming in from behind.
((Ubershort, just woke up (yes at one in the afternoon... geez) ))

OOC: I'm curious as to how someone would get hit the face and the person recieving the punch not see it coming? I'll simply play along, though I find it rather difficult to reply to something like that.
IC: David's eyes caught movement and almost too late. His head turning as he slid to a stop seeing a gnoll approaching him. He went to position his spear, but Valdgaar was quicker than that. Instead, David took a backstep and leaned back as far as possible to try and make the punch lighter on him. The attempt to dodge was a failure as the creature's fist met with David's jaw. The spearman was sent into the ground a slid a foot or two further away. In a slight daze, David Augustine slowly risen with his spear still on the ground. He stumbled around attempting to regain his balance.
He turned his head to look in each directiont trying to find where the cart had gone. He watched as it was being pulled away out of Avaren and towards the forest. And no doubt by the same creature that punched him. David then started running after the cart as fast as he could. The volley's of arrows and other such objects overhead as he didn't look back. He had scooped up his spear and reslung it across his back as he sprinted after the cart and slowly gained ground. The weight of the cart and everything on it had to slow the creature considerably. It wasn't a downhill slope nor upward thus made it more of a flat out run.
It was on the edge of the forest that David reached out his right hand and grabbed a hold of the cart before it dissappeared into the woods and Drathzor following behind him. The outcome probably wasn't going to be good as David was clearly out numbered and heading into the enemies territory. However, the promise that he had told those women that were in the cart burned inside of him and he wouldn't be able to live with letting them be mistreated by these hellspawned creatures.

ooc: I've got to agree with David in this one. I mean, you may have nice posts, but I hardly think Cain would have said you could go around grossly godmodding people because of it. You just randomly attack other characters multiple times, have all yourself automatically hit without giving them a chance to react, then say your character is just gone before moving on and autohitting someone else. I really don't think you're being fair at all here and wouldn't be surprised if you used that little option of yours to remove people from threads just because you don't like that I'm telling you off when you deserve it. Even if you are actually Cain with another character, my opinion still stands the same and you can ban me for all I care, although I doubt you are since Cain is really nice and made my pretty avatar and signature pics for me!
bic:
Tempted to follow after Augustine when he departed, knowing a leader when he saw one, Rotiart still knew his first and foremost loyalty was always to his queen. Saying nothing even so much as a word of farewell, just as he had made no greeting to the fellow soldier, Rotiart shifted his attention back to the battle.
Through valiant effort, it seemed at first that the queen would surely perish, as she was easily beaten down in combat by the massive gnoll, who could only be their leader as all seemed to follow in his wake.
Of course, their queen was resourceful, as would be expected for her to manage ruling a city. Because of this fact, she managed to keep herself from losing her head within the first few seconds, yet how long she could last against this opponent unaided was hard to say.
Rotiart, determining that he wouldn't try to take a guess at how long she could last, advanced quickly to maneuver himself behind the gnoll leader, even as loyal knights clashed with his followers. Holding his sword with both hands, his foot bumped into something metal on the ground. It was a mace. The perfect weapon for a heavily armored foe as this gnoll was. All someone needed to do with it was keep bashing the opponent until their armor crumpled on them or split like an eggshell, with their body following close behind.
Giving the weapon a sharp kick with iron-shod boots, he sent it skidding across the ground between the gnolls feet and towards the queen, hoping to give her a weapon besides a single bow with which to defend herself.
The element of surprise undoubtedly lost in this single act of helping his queen, he tried to charge the gnoll before he could effectively turn and defend himself, taking a mighty swing of his double-handed sword, relying on it's size alone to be able to smash through almost anything that got in it's way.

Your Majesty...
"Where is the Queen?"
...Your Majesty...
"I demand to know where she is!"
...THE KINGDOM IS UNDER ATTACK!
"God curse you and tell me where my wife is!" The King shouted in anger, twisting around and slamming the messenger into the wall. His eyes had fierce determination in them, he had been panicking for hours. Rumors flying around the Castle about invasion, Thurel leaving, Rianne's disappearance, and the King being pestered by a myriad of messengers to 'escape'.
The Queen has...led an attack on the invaders.
"Rianne is out there?" Elyan roared, the panic in his eyes only becoming stronger. "And you tell me to ESCAPE[/i]?" The Messenger froze in fear at his feet, obviously terrified as to what the relatively good-natured King would do when stirred into such an anger. "Over my royal carcass," was all he responded in a relatively calm voice. "Bring me my armor, my sword and my lance. Get Mullen ready for battle. We're going to charge."
...yes, sir.
It was not long - as the servants hurried faster than ever to equip the King - before he was ready. His sturdy armor from his days as a Knight in his Father's court was lined with ceremonial gold. The same had happened to his sword, though that remained sheathed. He wore a shield on his back, and in his right hand he had a long lance, also lined with gold for ceremonial reasons. Mullen was his horse, his faithful friend through sun and rain, war and peace. The intelligent beast also wore a good deal of armor, but not enough to slow down his swift hooves.
Lined with soldiers who once served alongside him, his own honor guard, the King raised his sword to signal the start of the charge of his group. One of the soldiers blew into a horn, while two others held the banner of the House of Herculides. The King raged forward, and while ordering some of his soldiers to enter other parts of the fray, a good deal of them remained with him as he noticed a particularly large (at least 50) group of Gnolls surrounding a fray of Warriors.
To his horror, he noticed one of them was his wife.
"Soldiers, protect your Queen!" Elyan commanded, sending most of his guard into the fray, slicing and stabbing from their horses. The King himself patted Mullen's side, and then charged forward, catching at least three or four Gnolls on his lance. "Disgusting creatures," Elyan muttered, before Mullen reared up and delivered a swift kick to the head of another Gnoll. He reached the center, just in time to see Rotiart attempt to defend Rianne and give her a mace.
He steered Mullen towards Rianne. He jumped down next to her and threw his arms around her and held her close to his armor. "I'm so glad you're alright." He said, his panic slowly disappearing. "Take the Mace, get on Mullen and fight them from him. I will take care of this one." He turned and drew his sword, facing Fenbrig with anger in his eyes. "You dare touch my wife, you disgusting hyena. You!" He cried towards Rotiart and Susan, "Continue the defense! This one is mine!" Then without further adieu, he charged with his sword, ready to take out the creature.

Post by Thurel Derufin on Sept 4, 2006 9:20:22 GMT -5
Things were starting to look grim for Thurel Derufin; he had managed to kill a total of 11 Gnolls from when he had first entered the battle and was about to add a 12th to his count, when suddenly battlecries from behind him reached his ears. For all he knew, it could be some Gnolls on the ground fighting against Guards or more of those creatures howling from outside the Wall. However the pounding of iron-shod footwear was enough to catch his attention, and Thurel whipped around after disarming a Gnoll that was in front of him; quite literally too. And Thurel saw another group of Gnolls coming out of the Wall Tower behind him.
If anything; now was the opportune moment to run.
Casting his shield to the ground below, the Captain of the Guard grabbed the disarmed Gnoll's shaggy fur with his left hand and drew him as close as he could with a struggling beast. Realizing that time was shorter than he had hoped, Thurel's bastard sword drove into the Gnoll's stomach; driven by the guiding force of the Knight's right hand. Now that the Gnoll had stopped it's struggling, Thurel held the massive creature close to him and leaped from the Walltop; but not before one of the incoming Gnolls charged him from behind and stuck him in the side with a nasty dagger. Grunting in pain Captain Derufin, in his black armor stained with the blood of his foes, fall off the walltop but had managed to position the larger body of the dead Gnoll beneath him as he fell.
The impact hurt like Hell, but Thurel was still alive; in pain but most definitly alive. Struggling to push himself up off of the corpse beneath him, Thurel cursed as his heavy armor prevented him to do that in his current state. Unstrapping his platemail top, Thurel gasped out in pain as his hand brushed against his side, but still managed to toss the bulkier armor off to the side so he could reclaim it when the time came. So he still wore his black helm and usual armor (fabric shirt, chainmal, leather jerkin, and surcoat) and slowly managed to raise himself to his feet. Good timing too; for a Gnoll jumped down from the Wall after him and sliced the corpse where Thurel had been just moments before with a curved blade.
Wielding the sword unsteadly with both hands, the black helmed warrior swung his bastard sword in a horizontal arc and cleaved the beast in half. However that move alone sapped what strength he had left; the stab and the impact of the fall had taken a lot out of the man, not to mention the fighting. Staggering toward the sounds of fighting, Thurel was determined to link up with the City's forces. Or else he'd collaspe in the streets and be at the mercy of ravenous hyena-like creatures; and Gnolls show no mercy. Either way; the Captain of the Guard needed help whether he liked it or not.
