ooc: I don't think that I have to explain my actions, save that an apology to David is needed because what he said makes sense and I didn't account for that. When you try to write a fight, it's nearly impossible not to God-Rp; if you dodge a blade that's technically just as bad as have a blade hit you, because you give no chance for the other poster to change that. Rotiart; I been posting like this for some time now, so I'm aware of what I'm doing and no I'm not Cain; Cain got me on here to be an obstacle for the site and I'm doing just that.
Ic: Fenbrigd hadn't expected the Queen to wriggle out from underneath him, but as he tottered about unsteadily; a sharp blow to his privates sent him reeling forward crouched over in pain. That opened up a window in time that allowed the Queen to not only get away from him, but pick up the bow of a fallen solider and as Fenbrigd stood to his full height once more; the woman had notched an arrow in her bow and aimed it right at him. She didn't think that she could get a great enough pull on the bowstring to get the arrow to pierce his armor at such close range, did she?
Meanwhile on the edge of the Forest, Valdgaar was pulled into an unexpected halt; startled by this the Gnoll whirled about in confusion only to be cut down by a stray arrow that had somehow been either most very lucky or simple a shot that was terribly off.
Then again...Fenbrigd's entire face was open and at this close range the human would have a low chance of missing her mark. Snarling at her angrily, but holding his ground for the moment; the one-eyed Fenbrigd sized up the situation as any veteran campaigner would. If he moved toward her; he'd get shot in the face. If he ran off to fight another day, then he'd get shot in the back and that would be no way to die. To run to the left or the right was possible, but it was risky at most; however the gnoll didn't have to make that decision for himself. Something skidded across the ground beneath him and Fenbrigd looked down to see a mace skid to a halt; whirling around to see where it had come from, Fenbrigd instead got to see a human swing an immense sword at his side.
The large Gnoll hollered out in pain as the sword bite through armor and flesh, but thankfully as the one-eyed Fenbrigd was thrown down from the sheer force of the blow, it hadn't been enough to take down this being. Sure it crushed his bones, smashed a kidney and not to mention that he was bleeding profusely; Fenbrigd like most Gnolls had a extremely high pain tolerance and this was shown as Fenbrigd stood shakily to his feet; still a match for any that challenged him.
Abeit a dying one.
"You...", barked Fenbrigd rasply, "Fenbrigd make you pay vell for that ya!". But before he could move in on the assailent, one of a higher rank than most. The King himself had ridden forth to do battle in the streets and he challenged Fenbrigd to battle; which the Gnoll accepted with silence for here was the greatest chance to prove himself in combat. As the King charged the Gnoll, the hyena-like brute sidestepped at the last minute and slammed the hilt of his sword into the back of Elyan's armor as he passed.
"Try again Kingie; you miss badly first time ya!"

((Seeing as I've missed quite a lot, coupled with the fact that I'm a lazy bum, methinks it's reasonable to say that all the named Gnolls currently under my control have been cut down either by arrows or sword blows. Cheerio.))
"Der mor comin'!!!" A reserve on the walls howled the message, each mangled syllable of the Gnoll language filling the air like a warm Sunday evening breeze over a landfill. Down below, heading for the gaping hole in the wall-gate, was the reason for the commotion: a horde of fresh Gnoll Cutthroats, numbering at least a hundred strong, charged across the grassy expanse between the safety of the forest and the shadow of the city. At their head was Grol'Duran, a matured and hardened Warlord presiding over a good portion of the Gnoll attack forces; his reputation was just as grand as the style with which he slew his victims. "Grol'Duran," came the cry, and Gnolls within the city who heard it let out an invigorating cheer. The battle had been going badly ever since the royalty arrived; now the tide would turn, for the fiendish 'hyena-men' had their own high-ranking killing machine.
Grol'Duran, though beastlike as all Gnolls were, was shorter than most Cutthroats, and a tad stockier; however, that extra breadth came from an abnormal abundance of rock-hard muscle rippling under his furry hide. This power, together with amazing skill in combat and great agility even with the thick armor plates he wore, gave the Warlord an uncanny ability to destroy every human in his path. And this he did; as soon as he entered the city - forty paces in front of his sprinting brigade - he slammed head-on into a small group of guardsmen scrambling across the street. With two wide, curved swords swinging wildly, he formed blurred red patterns in the air as this group was minced, ready for dinner. As the Gnoll's crew arrived, he began sniffing out the air, trying to formulate the perfect attack plan.

It several moments later. The battle was already seemingly turned towards the citizens of Avaren. Victory seemed to be theirs at the moment as the King and Queen were now fighting along with their soldiers and the other warriors of the city. However, the fate of one warrior was still undetermined as it would seem that he had a death wish. He wasn't afraid of charging into the enemy's territory if it meant saving others besides himself. David Augustine figured that he was only a disposable warrior and nothing of that importance. He wasn't acknowledged for anything and lived in the shadow of his father and struggling to be something better than his predecessor.
With the sounds of snarls and war cries coming from the forest, it was difficult to make any sort of true outcome. All that was known was that there was a large battle being fought near the boundry but out of site from the city. The last sound that was heard was the victory cry of a gnoll and then a loud yelp and a scream of pain. A very loud scream of a horrified woman was also heard echoing through the tree branches. Perhaps it reached the city, but then again maybe it didn't. It was rather unknown if anyone was truly paying any attention to what was happening.
Minutes passed and seemingly nothing was coming out of the forest. However, there was then a movement in the shadows. It was slow, but something was coming out. A single man with torn clothing, scraps, cuts, and blood dripping off of his body was pulling a four wheeled cart on his own. He had a spear postioned that if anything was to charge towards him from the front that they would be stuck on it to die. However, he was staggering as he was walking. Of course, all the blood that was on him wasn't only his. The four wheeled cart still had everything that was inside it. The women and the riches, though one of the women where hurt from whatever happened in the forest.
With all his remaining strength, David pulled the cart. He didn't care for his own life at the moment, he just wanted to get these people to safety. Each step he grew slightly closer to Avaren. However, if no help was to make itself known, then his efforts would only be in vain. His true hope was that eventually one of the guards on the city's walls would notice and come to assistance. The chances of that were unknown to David because he knew that as he advanced towards the city he was also able to be spotted by gnolls that where still on the outskirts.

Post by Rianne Herculides on Sept 10, 2006 13:24:18 GMT -5
Rianne’s head turned quickly when she saw who arrived, and knew that they were going to get out alright in all of this. The King was here. She gratefully hugged him back when he dismounted as his guards began to chop through the gnolls like they were no more then butter. “Thank God you are here!” She whispered into his armor. There was no time for this though, and quickly they were going to be back into the fray. One thing left the Queen white though was what she was told to do. Use that mace that had been left to her by the other warrior who was busy fighting. Were they all mad!?
She was a small person, even if she was a Queen, and the only real weapons she could use in that manner had to be light. And a mace was anything but light really. There was no time to contest the fact. Already in her line of sight she could see that Thurel was not doing well and needed aid. So the Queen grabbed the mace to the best of her ability and held it carefully as she mouted her husband’s horse, Mullen, which was no easy feat. Thankfully one of the guards handed her the bow that she had taken which she kept on her lap. By the time she was up she glanced back at Elyan fightning the gnoll and then nudged Mullen into moving forward towards where she could now see the Captain of the Guard, mace weighing her arm down like a weight.
“Thurel!” She managed to cry out as she saw him fight one of these many beasts, urging Mullen forward more until she did end up being stopped by a gnoll crossing her path. “Foul creature.” She spat, bringing the mace up and then down upon the invader’s skull, cracking it on impact even if the blow was sloppy and not well aimed. That wasn’t the only thing that cracked though, as the Queen bit her lip as it felt as if her entire shoulder tried to pull from it’s socket. “Take the mace and fight with it.” She mocked under her breath as she realized there was no way she was going to be able to fight with that mace, not with that arm, and if she wanted one good arm she couldn’t use the other.
Luckily by now she was over by Thurel and pulled Mullen to a halt next to the large man. He seemed exhausted, and in no shape to really be fighting anymore. But they needed him so Rianne thought fast. “Thurel, drop that sword, and take this, I can’t use it anyways.” As if to emphasize her point she nudged his broadsword with her foot and handed him the mace. Certainly a larger person could make more use of that weapon. “Let’s ralley the people, we have to push these creatures back.” She said with serious tones, looking about. It seemed like other then the warriors with Elyan they were very scattered about the battlefield. That had to stop.
Keeping close to Thurel, Rianne stood up tall in the stirrups and yelled so that her voice carried. “Soldiers of Avaren, back into a formation, get back into a formation!” Her orders rang clear, and those that heard her tried to do something other then mill about like ants after their hill was destroyed. But Rianne wasn’t the one who commanded as much loyalty and command as Thurel and Elyan, it was up to them right now.
