This member group is rather different than most, in the sense that they are not exactly true "players", so to speak. They are the closest thing on this site that you would find to the neutral monsters that commonly frequent fantasy realms. In essence, they are NPCs, or the closest we here can come to them.
The most important thing to note about Outlanders is that they, for the most part, despise you. They are generally created for specific purposes and won't stop in their path towards their objective until it is accomplished, removing any obstacles that come to cross their path- including normal RP-ers.
They arrive without warning and generally cause some sort of havoc before a skilled Role-player can either drive them off or make their escape. They are very ranging in power, from such beasts as Kobolds to the cursed and near-unstoppable Death Knights. It is wise to avoid them, or at least not provoke them, should you have any doubt in your power to defeat them. Although, if you believe yourself able to take them on, then there can be rewards awaiting those who can best them.
Another important rule that should be noted is that outlanders also have the ability to "sweep" you from any thread in which you are fighting them. This occurs if you attempt to severely overpower yourself to attempt to win or excessively god-mod, all determined by the Outlander you are facing. What would happen in such a case is that you are somehow incapacitated, such as being rendered unconscious or somehow removed from the area. When this occurs, you have effectively lost your bid at attempting to defeat the Outlander and cannot post further in the thread. Thus, playing fair and creatively thinking up solutions to defeat your enemies is encouraged, while thinking you can bag a quick kill for the road will most likely get you nothing.
Of course, Outlanders are played by people, thus might react as people can, thus getting upset when things don't go their way and abusing power to make things do as they want. If you really believe an Outlander to be abusing their power, simply report it to Cain as you would any other problem to get it sorted out.
On a final note, do not simply ask for an Outlander position and expect to get one, they are created for specific purposes as generally decided on ahead of time. To be allowed to make an Outlander would require you to be known to be a decent Role-Player and to have discussed it at length with Cain beforehand.
