If you join soon, as in today or a few days from now, is there anything specail? Do you begin at a higher rank to fill in or do you still have to work your way up through the entire tree?

I'm thinking of joining. Is there a place to submit a character application, or do I simply create a character and place his biography in the proper section?

Create an account, then PM the admin with what kind of character you would like to be. You can either be a warrior or a mage. There are also special positions for each class, but I don't know if you get tested for them or not. So, just message the admin on what you want to be.

And I can add onto the helpful advice that Protege has given to you. If you want to become an alternative position for either Warrior or Mage, you must ask the Rulers of that culture. Depending on what position it is that you want, they will open up the position to you if you just ask or they may require a sample post to see if you can handle such a position before they give it to you.
And if they don't give it to you; that doesn't mean you are a bad role player, but it just means that you need to improve some and then you can try again when you get better if the position is still open.

I don't want an alternative position, I just needed to know if there was an application process. This is the first RP site I've been on where there really isn't one, so I was a bit confused. Another thing that's confusing me is the money thing. How does one get money?

Well, judging by postcounts and money amounts, it seems that one method is through posting... 15gp per post, eh? Welcome to the site

Muryllis has it right. Although I wouldn't be suprised if more ways were to come where you gain money, which is one of the reasons why the admins often say you need this much money instead of this many posts. Of course, the other reason for that could be that you can't subtract posts.

In theory, we mages can mage anything.
Although, the money system is flawed because you get money for any post. Thus, someone can spam the world to death and get five hundred bazillion gold. And you get money for OOC posts too.

That will shortly be rectified by the admins, I believe. Posts in the suggestions thread can be counted as such, because they are meaningful, but still. I have a feeling that we will shortly find that changed.
And also, mages can't do everything. From what I know, you can only do stuff that relates to your particular path. Although the higher ups and instructor may be masters of every path.

Although, the money system is flawed because you get money for any post. Thus, someone can spam the world to death and get five hundred bazillion gold. And you get money for OOC posts too. That can easily be fixed, though. You just have to modify the board and switch "Turn post count off" to yes on the boards you don't want to count. Like the OOC boards. And if someone starts spamming the IC boards, you just ban them. Although I'm sure the admins already know this.
