on another RPG proboards site I'm on they have a chat box for the people to talk to each other OOC while they're posting, it's at the top of the site and shows up at the top of every thread.
I was wondering if we could have it on here?

A chatbox is public though, not private. Also, its automatically refreshing, so when a new message is posted, the message appears automatically. This, however, means a constant connection, which could cause lag on slower computers.

I think chat boxes take away from a good site. They just look ugly and cause slow connections to be evern slower. I just got rid of my dial up a few weeks ago, and oh boy do big images and chats slow things down. Anyways, if you want to talk OOC, post in the OOC thread and talk with someone, or use PMs. That's my opinion.

Yeah, as someone with a dial-up connection, I definitely don't like the idea of a chat box. My computer is soooo slow as it is, and it's hard enough when I have to load a page with a lot of pictures, let alone some uber chat box thinger.
Boy am I eloquent. Ha!

At a different site, I remember there was a MSN chatroom made, but it never really caught on. Every time I checked it there was pretty much no one on it, and everyone just kept in the OOC board and PMs.

Well, aside from my worry that people won't be on it, I also worry that people may spend too much time on it. At many sites I go to, the OOC board has more posts than any other board, so what would happen with a chatroom? I'd be worried about people being more concerned with talking OOC than posting, and then things get inactive and ect.

It quite simple to use a chatbox. Usually chat boxes are used to inform on new-updates and such.

We can post an announcement on the forum also. The only difference between a forum and a chatroom is that things on a forum are divided up into organized sections, and a forum isn't self updating.
