They also could have been born in Aesir, but had not become a mage. Also, you don't question any warriors what they are doing in Aesir, do you? Put simply, everyone has their reasons.

For example, Insidia was born around Aesir, and shes in Avaren now. And she is becuase she crossed through the dark forest while being escorted by David.
