Elsan pulled out her sword and took a swing at him really fast and kept on swinging at him.

The girl managed to parry his blows, but only because he had softened them up when he split his energy between running and hitting. Now, Grask was simply inching forward, getting closer and closer the the frantic young human. With all his strength being applied to the attack, he began to swing faster and harder, using blows that could shatter bones, if not blades.

Elsan's eyes grew wider with fear but not showing it.She looked at the Gnoll and thought to herself,I'm not afraid, just got to think that and I can make it.Elsan took another swing at this big guys stomach.

Another blow, this one to Grask's stomach, was easily parried, but not before lightly grazing a bit of his fur. This caused him to yelp briefly, but he continued his ceaseless barrage on the human girl; he had far more stamina and strength than her, and her doubted she wouldn't give in soon.

Another fiendish grin came to his lips when the girl was knocked over and scrambled back up. He could have laughed when she tossed an arrow at his leg - doing no damage, seeing as an arrow isn't really meant to be thrown - and continued to advance. Grask came within an inch of the losing girl, then slammed all his weight into her chest.

Elsan looked at him and as she went to get her bow she was hit right in the chest that sent her flying.

Grask felt the satisfying crunch of his treebark pauldron on Eslan's body, and he curled up as the girl fell beneath his weight. Tumbling over her, he popped up and in a moment was back on his feet, slicing the curved sword down at the prone Eslan.

With the position his blade was going, the Gnoll easily parried her pathetic slash, sparks flying as the two metal blades collided. Now he stood once more in front of the girl, with the limp Eragon only a few feet to Elsan's right. Lunging forward, Grask aimed a fatal blow at the base of the girl's neck.

It really was by the most convenient chance for Elsan that Kalim just so happened to be wandering through the woods that day. For up until this point over the past series of weeks, he had busied himself almost nonstop with his studies deeply entrenched within the endless towers of books that were the library of Aesir. It was by sheer chance that he had chosen this day to wander into some of the less-secure regions in the surrounding area for a bit of real-life practice to see if his studies had actually paid off.
So it was that he had heard the sounds of battle a while before actually coming upon the battle at hand. Clashing of steel met his ears and prompted him to find their source, in case he might find an opponent satisfactorily softened-up enough the current engagement for him to take on.
Of course, a two-on-one would also suffice quite nicely.
While the gnoll was busy swinging at it's prey, Kalim swiftly circled around in the trees, having no rattling cumbersome armor to give away his position and a recent rain making it so the leaves upon the ground didn't crunch constantly to alert everything of his presence.
Hoping the gnoll was actually focused on it's prey and was not expecting his attack, he swiftly hurried from cover of trees into the clearing, approaching the gnoll from the side, as it swung a mighty blow at the girl it faced, knowing if he took too long to get a favorable jump on it, the girl would surely die and leave him to face the beast-man all by himself.
Thrusting his staff between the gnoll and Elsan, silently thanking the minor investment he had put in having several iron bands placed decoratively on his staff, being much less expensive and just as shiny as silver. Due to this, the sword let off a mighty hail of sparks as it clanged against the metal resistance.
Not nearly enough to stop the blow, the staff, now between Elsan and the gnoll, clanged lengthwise against the girl. Still, it had made it so she was getting minor bludgeoning as opposed to straight out decapitation.
Trained effectively at multi-tasking, even as the staff made it's collision with the girl, he let go with his other hand and made a sharp gesture at the gnoll's face, sending a small set of fire at it's eyes. While nowhere near as skilled with his magic as he had hoped, it was still a minor spell that could potentially blind his opponent, especially one that had been pre-occupied on one target.

The blade inched closer... it had gained an elegant whistle as it sliced through the air, and Grask awaited the satisfying sound it would make after slamming into Elsan's neck, lacerating her shoulder and leaving a deliciously gorey mess for him to feast on. Unfortunately, that was not so.
Thunk!
His blade collided with something hard, scraping off a shower of sparks soon after. The Cutthroat turned to see what the cause for this was - another young person, this one covered in soft outer cloth; whatever he hoped to achieve, it was obviously nothing. Pulling his sword up for a blow to Kalim's right arm, the Gnoll suddenly yelped in pain as a searing flame jetted at his eyes. Grask fell to the ground, rubbing his singed face frantically with his paws.

Elsan waited for the sword or whatever it was to hit her neck, but nothing hit her neck. All she heard was a thunk and a powerful yelp of pain.Elsan looked to see what had hit the big creature. To her surprise a young boy with very lite clothes on and a small but very sharp sword.Elsan looked at the boy and went to the creature and pulled out her sword to kill him,but she stopped knowing she couldn't kill him.She put her sword away and looked at it.

His plan had been executed flawlessly. The girl was alive and the creature was, at least for the moment, incapacitated and perhaps even blinded. Still, if he didn't act fast, the creature might get a chance to recover and renew it's attack, enraged at it's injuries.
"Don't hesitate if you want to live, idiot!" he said after the girl put her sword away, refusing it seemed to slay the gnoll that had been trying it's best to kill her first. "Ghah!" he exclaimed, "Gotta do everything myself it seems."
Swinging his staff overhead with both hands, he aimed a powerful blow at the gnoll's head, aiming to crush it's skull with the solid oaken staff.

Elsan looked at the boy, and saw him take out his staff. She ran over to him and pushed the staff out of his hands."Look let's just go.You shouldn't kill him.I'm not that rude."
