Lessien sat silently as time passed her by in the darkness of the cool and empty garden.. Lessien had taken up residence almost here to enjoy springs sweet breath. The wind blew the trees lightly as the leaves rustled making a natural tune. The hout of an owl added its own harmony. A hand harp stood idol on the garden seat, the moonlight shimmering upon Lessien’s white gown. Lara perched herself on the branch opposite the seat, her feathers fluffed and her eyes closed sleeping soundly. Lessien sat silent a tear trickled down her cheek as she reached out picking up the small harp.
Stroking the stings she let the sweet sound echo around the garden. It had been many moons since she had strung those strings and tuned them to her brother’s fiddle. Pricking the strings she began to create and sweet melody. Taking a deep breath she opened her mouth to sing the song she had so long to sing again.
School came to an end
She couldn’t wait to spread her wings
Barely come of age
Tears welled in her eyes
She fumbled with goodbyes
Mama held her young head in her hands
Whispered baby, someday you’ll understand
Life will bring you home
She grew up quick
In a place she didn’t fit
It broke her heart a dozen times
Saw a good friend die
When they got a little too high
Could’ve been her that crossed that line
And lately all she can think about
Is how she left behind, what she can’t live without
Life takes care of you
Life takes care of me
It sometimes lets you down
What goes will come around
Faith will ease the pain
And drive you through the rain
On that long and lonely road
Life will bring you home
Feelin’ 18 again
With her old and new friends
Guess mum was right all along
And her high school flame
Who said she hadn’t changed
Said he always knew she’d come back home
Yeah I always knew you’d come back home
As the lyrics passed over her lips, Lessien thought about home. Home where was that now, she didn’t have one. There were no open arms waiting for her only ashes and burnt corpses. Life had taken her home not returned her to it.
