Such grave news lately.
The Chief Librarian was an elderly man with a long graying beard and robes that fell down to his ankles. He floated across the ground using the speed of his magic to guide him to the Chamber of the Grand Magi. The two wise rulers who had always led Aesir into the serene paradise it appeared to be needed to hear of what was going on in their city of origin, Avaren.
While the Avaren people had lost their knowledge of the brotherhood between their two cities long ago, Constantine held the secrets in all the books of his library. Though many of the Mages did not know of its existence, others dared to leave the city and go down there, making their lives on the ground. Constantine kept a watchful eye over them from the Library, and he had seen quite a grave sight.
Thus for that reason, he appeared at the Chamber and immediately bowed before twin thrones. "My most distinguished Lord and Lady, the Grand Magi." He presented himself before them, his head pressed to the ground and his arms stretched before them. "Your humble servant, the librarian Constantine, seeks your audience on a matter of most importance."

Staring idly out of a window set high upon the tallest tower of the academy, Cain observed with little interest a raging thunderstorm that transpired at that very moment past the far reaches of the city. A gale of such force might have wreaked havoc upon the fair city of Aesir, especially at this altitude, yet no ill weather ever touched Aesir. The climate in Aesir was always perfect, thanks to the intricate web of enchantments and powerful magic that made Aesir into the paradise that it was. After all, what need were wind or rain when one might find a neighbor who could create those basic elements from nothing? So it was that while the rest of the world took refuge in their houses, Cain's people dwelt in peaceful bliss, oblivious to the problems of the outside world.
Yet all was not perfect. While most of his people couldn't care less about what the rest of the world was up to, the rest of the world was apparently jealous and fearful of the children of Aesir, if random rumors could be trusted. Yet still, as of now that was all they were: rumors.
Cain received word of the visitor approaching before he had fully reached the Grand Magi's Audience Hall, at which point his beloved Delia had departed, unwilling to bother herself with any such matter that would be so inconsequential to her. With a single order, the doors to the audience hall were thrown open to admit the chief librarian without having to bother him with the trouble of announcing himself and being forced to wait until his audience had been properly sorted out.
"My most distinguished Lord and Lady, the Grand Magi. Your humble servant, the librarian Constantine, seeks your audience on a matter of most importance." He said, before giving Cain a chance to reply, cutting directly to the point and not bothering to drone on with mindless bumbling flattery that accompanied almost any nobility who sought the Grand Magi's presence. It was a fact which impressed the lord of Aesir, who despised time wasted in any form.
"You may rise, Chief Librarian Constantine, and present your problems." He said to the bowing mage, "I shall grant you your audience. Lady Delia, however, shall not be here, as she is currently somewhat indisposed. Tell me, what troubles you?"

Enelya ran into the audience hall. Not her most graceful enterance but all she could muster at such a time. Quick as she could Enelya lay the blue prints on the floor with the fondation structer in the book on top. "I ask to see the Grand Magi as a matter of importance, I apologise for the rudeness I am showing but I am in great destress!" Enelya looked on her blue eye's worried but hopeful.

A quiet flutter of plain, brown cloth was all that announced the arrival of the Master Spellweaver; he did not consider it imperative to wear elaborate robes of the finest silks on all occasions, and only donned his set of ceremonial garb on special occasions - hence the name 'ceremonial,' he thought simply. Muryllis could see that grand door leading to the audience hall was open, and judging by the presence of two people in the chamber, could see that something of importance was already happening. As it was, the old man had the faintest idea that he knew exactly what was being discussed - my part shall come soon, he knew, but not at this very moment.
Quietly entering the hall - a luxury he allowed himself, for he knew the Grand Magi well, and the three of them knew that few, if any, had the power to turn Muryllis into an assassin. Retiring to a corner of the massive hall, the Spellweaver stood, patiently awaiting the end of this discussion. He knew perfectly well that the Grand Magus would require his assistance soon enough.

A moment ago things had been perfectly peaceful. Even upon Constantine's arrival, some semblance of peace had pertained to their conversation. It was a simple subject bringing a matter before his king. One that, while supposedly of great importance, still could be spoken of lightly and almost amiably.
Now, however, all peace had been shattered as multiple others had burst in upon his Audience hall, all seeming to think their mission of more importance to any others, with the exception of Muryllis, who promptly slunk off into his own corner.
"Hold!" Cain commanded, smashing a gauntleted hand upon the seat of his throne, the echo resounding louder than the voices of the two women insistent on both getting his attention, "I will have order in my Hall!"
"Now," he said afterwards, "You may think you have matters of importance, yet have you ever considered that you all might be here for the same reason?" he said sternly, pointing a finger at Muryllis, "Master Spellweaver, step forward. I will hear you first. You two may wait," he said, turning back to Lucy and Enelya, "And hear him out. I shall listen to your own stories when he has finished."

The old mage cocked an eyebrow; instead of hearing out the younger, less experienced girls first, Grand Magus Cain Ellator gave the floor to Muryllis. He senses the urgency in the present situation, he thought. Brilliant!
Striding ever quietly to the center of the audience hall, the Master Spellweaver began his short, to-the-point speech. "Our good friend," he began, "Queen Rianne of Avaren, has come to the conclusion that elegantly refined use of magic is an 'ungodly' crime. As such, she's decided to imprison all 'suspicious' folk in Avaren. Naturally, that not only includes the children of Aesir themselves, but also those of her crown who consider this movement a tad vicious."
"As this knowledge came to me, I briefly had the idea that perhaps we should intervene. After all, those being rounded up are no match for the armed personal guard of the Avaren royalty; I propose you allow me to have a bit of fun with the situation; my proposal for your part in this act, however, is quite delicate - I think it is worth discussing in detail at a later time." He stood back, awaiting his superior's decision.

"Fun?" The old librarian roared, "Fun?" Constantine had never been given the chance to state his business to Lord Cain, as he had been interrupted by two young magelings and of course, the "Master Spellweaver" Muryllis. Constantine had never trusted the so-called master, as, even though the Weaver had many years on him, the Librarian was still old enough to be the wizard's grandfather. Also, his sense of authority was blinded by revenge. He obviously believed in the Hammurabi code.
"This is no time for fun, boy." Constantine stepped forward, "My Lord, what Muryllis speaks is the truth. I have seen what the earthbound warriors are doing, and it is terrible. But if you rely on what I know, peace is what we Mages have strived for and nothing less! We must rescue our kind but then scold them - they've forgotten the rule that's kept us at peace for so long: seperation is better than integration and conflict."

Throughout the almost mirthful report from Muryllis followed by the more resolute and impassioned response from Constantine, Cain kept his face a stolid mask, as was befitting any true diplomat. It was only necessary, given the situation, that he not make huge display out of this, for if he were to act rashly, how could he expect the rest of his people to not follow suit?
"No, this is not time for fun," he said in agreement with Constantine, "My people shall be set free, although the warriors shall not get off so easy as to just be given a warning, for unless a child is punished severely enough, they will never learn and return to commit whatever misdeed once again. It seems our peaceful isolation has been brought crashing down by the rash actions of that fool queen of theirs."
"Chief Librarian," he said, still in the same expressionless tone, "I thank you for this news you have brought me, your concern for the people of this city- your people, is highly commendable."
"Master Spellweaver," he said, turning once again to Muryllis, "They have taken our citizens hostage and threatened our entire nation with their ravings. I decree that all property and belonging the perpetrator of this crime is now forfeit and subject to my solitary rule. Forfeit also are the lives of all who oppose my judgment. Master Spellweaver, go deliver my ultimatum and rescue our people."

Akai walked in the door, hoping to gain an audience with the Grand Magi, but noticed that, indeed, his attentions were elsewhere. She overheard the last piece of the conversation, but had kept her mouth shut. She tried to remain inconspicuous, but placed her bo-staff down at the doorway. The sound it made as it hit the floor, having been improperly leaned against the wall, was a clunk, quiet, but loud enough to be audible, and so too loud for her taste. She walked away from her staff, and stood out of the way. Even from the small bit of the conversation she had heard, this was far more important than her wish for an audience. She leaned against the wall, with her arms crossed, hoping not to seem too out of place. She listened as Lucy began to rant deleriously, or so it seemed, and wondered when it would be her turn to speak, if the Grand Magi had enough time for her at the end. She closed her eyes, and began to think of exactly what it was she wanted to say.

"Hmph," Cain exclaimed as yet another person entered. This was absolutely unnecessary for there to be this many people assembled all at once. What was more, they all seemed to have the same exact problem between the lot of them.
"You, girl," he said, pointing to Lucy, "When troops arrive in Avaren, go with them to pick up your sister if that is what you wish. Other than that, there is nothing I can do for you for a single corpse. Heartless as it sounds, your sister is of little importance in this matter if she is already dead."
"As for the rest of you," he said, standing from his throne, "This council is adjourned. Even should you bring other problems, I doubt they are of equal or greater important than this matter at hand and thus they can and will wait." Turning his back to the assembled audience, he waved a single hand dismissively, "Go now, as I assume you all know what you must do."

Akai looked about with dismay. Her pledge would have to wait, but for now she could show her loyalty through immediate obideince to his word. She turned about, and picked her staff from the ground, before exiting with a military discipline that showed her reverence for this mighty mage. She had no intention of angering the Grand Magi, especially before pledging her allegience to his cause. Perhaps she would even try to assist the troops in battle. She hadn't had a good fight in a long time, and the prospect made her exit seem more joyous than it perhaps should have. She passed through the door, not looking back, nor questioning what she had been told. Indeed, the matter at hand was gravely important, and so she would not bother him lest he had free time.

Muryllis chuckled; despite the Librarian's attempts to shut down the Spellweaver's good mood, the whiny squeeling on the part of Lucy, and Cain's agreement with Constantine that he should stick his humor you-know-where... well, the old man still got his wish, and was given the task of liberating the oppressed mages of Aesir from the grimy paws of the beast that is Avaren. Or something like that; in his glee, Muryllis could only think of what fun he would have in the was that the Queen had given her people, and it showed in his fiery eyes and sinister grin. He did not bother to notice that hopeless wrech, Akai, nor did he care to do so - he had a lot of work ahead of him, and certain resources were already in his possession...
