Standing outside the sanctum, Akai had been still for an hour, unable to decide what to do at this time. She looked over at the guard standing by the door, and saw her sword. Immediately, Akai decided to challenge her to a contest of strength. "You! I challenge you to a match! No magic, just boken and staves!" She looked at the guard, hoping a response to the affirmative was her reply.

"A worthless fight? Before the Arcane Sanctuary? I'm afraid not, Warrior." The tone was cold and dripped with poisonous ire; the old man it belonged to stood in the darkness of the night, watching the brown-haired young girl intently. His gaze was that of a predator's; though it did not seem right on a scraggly old relic, it perfectly fit this one. "Do tell, what is a worthless, trigger-happy thing like you doing in a hallowed place such as this? Your kind does not belong here - there is no place for filth in a prestine area." Angered? Oh yes, the old mage was angered by the sight of a rodent so far below him so much as breathing the air of Aesir.

Akai looked at the man, taking offense to his words. "Well," Akai's gaze hardened just as much as the man's, "I suppose I should be a mage, shouldn't I!? Excuse me for being unable to cast spells! Whatever!" She turned about. She didn't feel filthy. Apparently, though, just being born unable to cast spells was enough to make one filthy, here. "This filth has come to swear her allegiance to Aesir, but if you would rather I not, I can always throw in my chips with Avaren." She was so angry with the mage that she had not even heard the temple guard ask her name. She wished death on this putrid incarnation of hostility.

Yet another mage stepped out of the shadows. This one was young and not quite as powerful as the old man. However ignorant this warrior was, the new arrival knew that the old man was more than he seemed. A grimace of disgust crawls along his face as Verdan looks the warrior over. "Pledge your allegiance? Don't make me laugh." he states, speaking to the inferior being. "And seeing as 'this filth' is just going to run off to little ole Queeny of Avaren and tattle about us making pretty things out of thin air, we do not need 'filth' in this city. Personally, I like the fact that Aesir is clean. I'd like to keep it that way."

The raw insolence of this aggressive one appalled the Spellweaver; however, he had been trained from a young age to keep calm about such matters, and keep calm is just what he did. "You can swear your allegiance," he said, not too concerned about Verdan's conspiracy theory - the minds of the ungifted bent almost willingly to a Neuromancer's will when the need arose. "If you want to, of course you can. Then again, I doubt you will be of any use at all the a society where children are capable of more than things like you."
"As for you, Master Verdan," he said, turning to face the Scholar close to him, "I think it is time for you to return to your studies. I thank you for your concern, but I shall handle this matter myself." Guardian Lucy's shaky command, not at all fitting of a guardian of such an important place, did not stir the old man; in fact, he was humored by it more than anything. "Miss Lucy, you would be wise to lower your weapon; the danger here is not great enough to require the use of force, nor small enough to require petty swords. Not yet, at least," he concluded, turning once more to face Akai.

"Bah..." Verdan grumbled something about always having to study, but complied with the Master Spellweaver's command. "I shall, Master." he said, pulling his hood over his head and flowing into the darkness. "I bid you all good day. Well... more like good night. Yes, even you, you cockroach." he said, referring to the warrior. And with that he left, leaving the trio to argue all they wanted.

Akai had grown furious. "I was joking! I would never swear allegiance to someone who would have my own mother executed! I'm not much, as you say, but I don't see why you insist on treating me like filth. I know spells. Yes, I know spells. I've just never been able to cast a spell! If you call me filth because of unhappy circumstances surrounding my birth, then I shall just leave, and swear my allegience to none. I am sure that would please such high and mighty mages as yourself. I hope you meet your death on a sword." She turned and began to storm off, until she heard the woman say that she could mistake Akai for a man. "HE!? HOW DO YOU MISTAKE THIS FOR A MAN, YOU IDIOT!?" She vented her anger in one shout. She was no longer interested in a sparring match, having made two new enemies, already.

Lucy's incompetence bored him, but Muryllis managed to pull out an answer to her question - just to get her out of the way. "I, as you should already know, am Muryllis Antonius, Master Spellweaver of the Aesir court and personal friend of the Grand Magi." Yadda yadda yadda. "Now then, lower your metal toothpick, if you would." He then spoke once more to the Warrior in the group, muttering quite audibly, "pointless anger in the company of those stronger and wiser than you is not recommended, rat."

"Well, then I suppose I should be above name calling making me angry, shouldn't I?" Akai declared, with an obvious sense of sarcasm. "Well, I suppose though, that what's good for one is good for another. I suppose that this 'Master Spellweaver' should also be above name calling, too, huh?" She kept talking, making her words clear and loud, yet still quite obviously talking to herself. "Unless perhaps, we should start calling each other "Warlock" and "Rat" whenever we talk." She got a good look at this man. She would have to learn to avoid him, eventually. She didn't like him, but it didn't look like she could fight him without getting horribly mutilated, or at best kicked out of Aesir. She didn't want to be stuck relying on Avaren for residence.

Akai coarsely drew a few complex magic circles in the ground with her bo-staff. She was quite annoyed, and would have used those destructive spells, if she hadn't been born unable. She complimented them by drawing a lot of smaller, less powerful runes around them. Of course, these runes were useless, drawn by Akai. She didn't have the magic to give them power, but she had memorized every detail of each spell. She didn't figure it much different from memorizing new martial arts moves, but she knew she couldn't do anything with magic. She wished she could use them to kill him, but she figured he would get the messege. "That is what I wish would hit you, spellweaver." Akai turned about to Lucy, "My name is Akai. You can ignore me. Maybe if you come see me off duty, I can teach you how to use that. I didn't mean to offend the holy ground." As she said "that," she had pointed to the sword that Lucy had. She turned, figuring it better if she just left. She walked away from the two, trying to calm herself down.
