Mira turned back and looked at Verdan, wondering about his sudden unhappiness and change of tone. “I really do have to leave…” she said softly, not feeling too happy with herself for making Verdan loose his sudden happiness. “And I would rather skip dinner and meeting some rich Lord… but he’s very important, according to my parents and I have to be there.”

"No-no. Go ahead. I'm sure it's important." Verdan said, hanging his head slightly, averting his eyes from Mira. "Just... go." he said, talking to the ground. "I have a disliking for lengthy goodbyes." Verdan got up sharply and in one stride closed the distance between himself and Mira. He tensed for a split second, as if restraining his body from doing what his mind willed him to do, and instead, took her hand and kissed it with the same air of formality he had held that time at the lake, when the first met. "I hope you enjoy yourself... Mira..." Verdan finished speaking, using her name instead of 'milady,' stressing that fact slightly. "Good day." he turned around abruptly and began walking in the opposite direction of the exit to the stables, his small sack of sugar left behind, forgotten.

Mira just stood, unable to say anything at all since Verdan wouldn’t give her an opening of any kind. Verdan kissed her hand with an air of formality about his action, and then stressed the usage of her name. Finally, when she did get a chance to speak, he was already striding away from her without a glance back.
Sighing softly to herself, she turned away to walk back toward the other exit of the stables, and spotted something Verdan had left behind- his sack of sugar. She walked over and picked it up, turning toward Verdan to give it to him, but he was gone. Clutching the sack in her hands, she walked toward her own exit and started on the rather long walk home to meet with some Lord Bryant. But, unbeknownst to her, she had also left something behind: her shoes.
