Insidia would never answer what she were asked, though the answer was of course, yes. She feared the only man who ever loved her, her father. Of only his kind intentions were done without such diabolical methods, if only he would tell her he loved her, maybe then she would be at more ease. If she did understand, she would not fear him, though the most compelling was her denial of her own wicked soul.
"I cannot sleep." She told David firmly.
Her eyes moved to gaze at the fire, its flames moving and the shades of orange it showed. It looked soft, as if it could not burn her, and the warmth was all too welcoming. The fire would only be a temporary amusement. Higher and higher they seemed to go, the lack of sleep brought her vision in and out, distorting the flames.
"You cannot protect me from this, you ignorant man." Insidia spat, uncaring of how it sounded, she had told him they were nightmares, intangible nightmares! "You cannot protect me from what I see when I close my eyes, do not uselessly try to comfort me. You are no gentleman, Sir."
Her seeping anger held truth. A sword and muscles could not defend against malediction on an evil phantasmagoria as she slept. She felt no need to apologize, nor correct her words, there was not a reason for David to speak that way to her. It seemed as if he spoke to her that way all too often, acting as if she were completely defenseless against everything. Trapped in husk of uncertainty and caution, she forced her eyes to stare at the fire, to watch it, force it's appearance to keep wake to her body. Oh, but how much she wanted to at least rest her eyes...

David's eyes slightly widened as Insidia had turned down his offer so aggressively. However, the shock that was on his face melted away and became calm once more. His gaze shifted away from her and he tilted his head downward. He wasn't as ignorant as she believed him to be. He had been exposed to various types of magics in battle and survived them all. It was by luck that he obtained the weapons that he now possessed. They offered protection from the vast majority of magic spells that were known at this time. However, the weapons themselves where vunerable.
This information was something that he wasn't going to argue or reveal. If some sort of magic was involved with her problems, there was a high chance that one of the two weapons would be able to protect her from it. However, she would have to end up holding the weapon in hand while she slept and it had to be unsheathed. He let out a soft sigh. She was probably right about being ignorant to an extent. There were many things that he didn't completely understand and one of those things was magic.
"Then I am sorry to disturb you, Ma'm." David finally spoke after several minutes, "I will go and retire to my bed, goodnight." He then gazed at Insidia one last time before standing up to his full height. He walked around the side of the couch and towards the doorway that lead to the main hallway that contained the flight of stairs that he would have to take. He stopped inside of the doorway and glanced back at Insidia. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask, Insidia."

Those flames were the only thing keeping the hand of slumber away from grasping her. Insidia kept her eyes on it, watching it, letting it attempt to hold her interest. Many a thought ran through her head as well, dwelling on anything would help keep her eyes opened, she supposed. The hand of time seemed to tick so slowly, each minute an infinity. How she would last many hours she could not fathom, she knew she must, however.
"This thing...what use is it?" Insidia thought, lifting the dream catcher from her chest, letting her eyes turn attention to the necklace.
"What could it ever do? It is ornamental, nothing more. How could he think it would do anything at all? He may have just given it to me, thinking I would be the one who would believe it would help, to ease my fears. Oh, I do not know..." This time she let it fall against her, carelessly dropping from her fingers.
She lie on her back, her right arm bent above her, that forearm as a rest for her head, while the other arm rest across her ribs, over her loosened corset.
"What am I expected to do to stay without sleep...?"

David watched for a small amount of time and taking Insidia's silence as a response that she wasn't going to ask anything as of now. He walked through the hallway and slowly climbed up the stairs that lead to the upper floor. Once he entered that corridor, he turned around and sat down upon the top step. He bent over resting his right elbow on his right knee. The fist belonging to that arm touching his lower cheek as if he was thinking. His left hand was loosely hanging from his arm that was resting on his left leg.
Perhaps, Insidia was right. There was no possible way for David to help her. Maybe he wasn't meant to be the hero of this story. However, why was it that she had helped him? Was it out of pity or generosity? She puzzled him greatly and thus he couldn't exactly rest at this time. His mind racing as his blue eyes stared aimlessly down the flight of stairs that he had just ascended. If was going to help, he was most likely going to have to do some sort of research. He only hoped that any information that he could possibly obtain was within his own grasp.
"Insidia, I will help you find a solution to whatever it is that troubles you." he thought to himself as he glanced down the stairs one last time before starting to walk down the hall. He stopped inside of his room only to get a lantern to carry. He lit it using the fire that was still burning in the fire place. Once he left his room, he looked up and down the hall checking to see if something out of the ordinary was there.
Once he deemed it safe, David continued on with where he was going to go. He walked a few feet away from the door of his bedroom and on the opposite side of the hallway. Two large doors where there. He had pushed one of the double doors open and left it as such. The lantern glowing brightly in the darkness of the room. He slowly walked around lighting various lamps that were scattered across key portions of the room. It was larger than most rooms, but not that large. It was a small study of sorts. Shelves of books could be found on nearly every wall except for the wall that contained the doors. A large table that served as a desk had a few study materials scattered aboard. Once finished lighting all of the lamps, he set the lantern on the desk and began browsing the various books in a search for some sort of solution.

The skin beneath her eyes began to look bruised, darkened with purples and blues from the lack of her sleep. It felt as if they were wounds as well, her eyelids weights. What kind of daydream was about sleeping? That were the only one Insidia were currently capable of. So tired...terror consumed her as she knew that her body would collapse into sleep if it must, it were impossible for her to keep awake forever. She was frail, weak, even in her mind, her body's instincts would likely put her to sleep in a short amount of time.
It had become difficult to see for her, everything had a slight blur, or hallucinatory seemed to move for a quick second. The fire could still be watched in the corner of her eye, it's bright flickering casted a shine of light onto her face, helping keeping her from slumber. Insidia allowed herself to remember that ghastly body, the face of her father on it's head, and that damned owl.
"I must stay awake." She told herself, repeating it over and over within her thoughts.
"I cannot sleep...not tonight."
Beholding the light in the corner of her eye and the words and thoughts to remain awoken were not enough. Suddenly a long breath was taken in by her, Insidia's eyes fell closed, her muscles relaxed and she fell back into a deep slumber...

David let out a stifled yawn after browsing two books. Realizing that he was needing more sleep than what he had gotten his eyes began to close on their own. He shook his head and stood up giving another stretch of his arms and legs. He then put out the lantern and the lamps inside of the study and walked out closing the door behind him. He looked up and down the hallway to see if anyone was up and about, but no one was seemingly. After all it was very earlier in the morning, he guessed.
Instead of going straight to his bed, the warrior decided to check on Insidia one last time. He made his way to the stairs and descended them lazily. As he reached to bottom he let go of the handrail and then walked towards the enterance of the main room. He gazed inside of it to see Insidia sleeping in a rather akward position. Her back arched around the arm rest causing her chest to seem more prominant that usual. Her head and on arm was dangling freely on the other side of the arm rest. He chuckled softly to himself and shook his head. He approached her quietly so he wouldn't wake her.
David then carefully put his arms underneath Insidia and lifted her up slowly. This was only to help her get into a better position of sleep. Once he had moved her body completely onto the couch, he rested her head on the arm rest. He took the pillow that he had brought down from earlier and lifted her head once more but only enough to slide the pillow underneath it. Once he had done that he carefully placed her head against it. David grabbed the blanket that he had brought and spread it out over Insidia. He tucked her in only hoping that this would help her sleep better.
David then took a few steps back thinking that everything was alright. There were times that he had thought Insidia was bound to wake, but was surprised by how deep in sleep she was. "Good night." he whispered to her as he exited the living room to shortly start ascending the stairs. As he did so, he himself started to realize just how tired he really was. He made it up the stairs and towards his room. Once inside he walked over to his bed and dropped down upon it. He moved himself into a comfortable position laying on his back and then fell into a deep slumber as well after one final yawn.

The blackest of black, nothingness, abyss... Silence, stillness, timeless, emotionless... Bodiless, soulless, thoughtless, and strangness...
At peace at last, perhaps, within her own sleep? Was it really possible? David's movements gave her no disturbance, she were trapped still inside sleep, in that darkened abyss. Father Time had finally payed Insidia a visit. An hour had passed her by without a disturbance...so far.
The blackest of black, sound of moving feathering wings... Terror, feeling of unease throughout silent concious...
Her body lied still, but her heart, it beat faster, pumping harder, coursing blood quickly though her veins, moisture welling on her brow. Two hours have now gone by. And now the madness would return...
The blackest of black, sound of moving feathering wings... Terror, feeling of unease throughout silent concious... No longer silent, a loud call from the night bird of dread...
Her eyelashes flickered about, what was left of her thoughts begged to awake, screamed for the light of the fire, still in illume at the side of her. The breaths she made were heavy as her heart pumped, quickly as the blood coursed. That owl in the forest, did it just frighten her and it her dreams in fear force it to be inside her mind, or was it something more? The bird may not be her imagination playing with terror. And for now, within this 'dream' an abyss on endless night.

A chill ran up David's spine as turned onto his side and almost curled up into a ball. He could feel the tips of his hairs standing up on end. Something was disturbing while he slept. Perhaps a bad dream, but then again maybe not. His eyes suddenly bursting open as he looked around. Another hour had passed and nothing in the room had changed or it seemed.
Before him he gazed seeing two figures that he recognized. One being himself when he was a small child and the other the strong tall paladin that represented his father. He wore the flaming cape that represented the group of people that he lead on a crusade long ago. Though this crusade was to rid the enemies of this land and to free it from the clutches of a group of outlanders. It was the last time he had seen his father and recieved news that he had gone missing and never been found.
It was then that the two figures faded and then another two appeared. Though these two figures were all but the silhoutes. One was a man that was a warrior and greatly injured. He had arrows stuck in his back and was leaning upon the blade of his sword. The other silhoute was of another male being. Though this one was much slimmer and didn't seem to carry any weapons with him.
He could hear voices or so he thought coming from them both. Though he couldn't completely understand any of the words. One voice, however, of the injured warrior sounded like his father. David's eyes widened as he looked on. He had picked up a few words such as "living on", "exchange", "life", "death", and "the undead." He didn't understand it all but apparently some sort of deal was being made with both of the persons. The figure that David thought as his father extending his massive hand towards that of the slimmer figure, who's hands were long and lanky as if there were barely any muscle there. They shook and the silhoutes disappeared.
It was then that David bolted straight up on from his resting place. His eyes wide and cold sweat was on his face. What sort of ill omen was this? What was the meaning behind what he had dreamed. For that was all it was. He blinked several times and looked around to make sure that nothing was out of the ordinary. The dream insisted that his own father had made some sort of deal with a mage that dealt with death. It couldn't have been true or was it. David clasped his hands around his head as the thoughts came pouring through his mind. A surge of emotions and confusion was all that was stuck in his mind. What was going on?! Either way, he eventually shook it off and regained control. David slowly laid himself back down on the bed. His eyes open and staring at the ceiling above.

Several moments later, Insidia awoke, covered in moisture, her breaths each like gasps, her right hand held over her heart. The blanket that was place over her, fell onto her lap, she looked down at it with widened eyes. She shook her head, side so side, slowly, she knew David had walked away, he had went to sleep. Or so she had thought. She had never touched the blanket, she begged it were something she did within her slumber.
The sleep, realizing she could only remember nothingness, and then the sound of the owl. She could remember no more than that, though much time had gone by. She could clearly tell, the embers of the fire were much more dimmed, the flames less tall. Moving the blanket off of her, she laid back down...onto a pillow. Her eyes shifted with unease, though let her head rest on it. A minute went by...and another...and another...and one more. Her hand reached behind her, taking the pillow, and putting it at the edge of the couch with that blanket. It's placement behind her head was just as eerie as the blanket was found over her, she could not settle with it.
A sigh... Not enough time had went by for sufficient rest at all...Her subconscious wishes to awake must have been granted. The warm, dark, room suddenly took on it's own creepy feeling...she were all alone in it...

David had glanced down at the fire that he had built earlier on before he had fallen asleep or even rested somewhat. The flames where almost dead and nonexistant. Slowly fading away as there was less and less to burn. This only meant that it was almost morning or that the sun would soon be rising. It was also an indicator that the fire that he had lit for Insidia was almost out. He slowly rose and looked around the room. Though the sleep was insuffient it was better than no sleep at all.
David stood up off of his bed and stretched out his limbs again. He was thinking about going through a usual morning routine exercises that usually started around this time. However, Insidia was in the main room either sleeping or already awaken. He gave a final stretch of his arms and yawn to go with it. He then walked out of the bedroom and towards a washroom that was exactly across the hall. Finding the small basin which held warm water to use for washing one's face, he did exactly that and even ran some of it through his hair. He scooped some up and took the water into his mouth to give it a rinse.
He then spat it out into a primitive drain that took the water out of the house. David then took the nearby towel and dried his face. He then walked back to his room to change out of the clothes that he was currently wearing since they were rather dirty. The clothes that he put on were pretty much the same since he had on before. Warriors tended to wear the same outfit or similar ones. Once he put the cape around his neck and the clothe that he wrapped the top of his head in on. He exited his room with his swords strapped to the back of his waist.
He walked down the stairs and then turned to look inside of the main room. He found Insidia there laying down with the blanket and pillow removed from where he had placed them. David took this for Insidia being awake. "If you want to clean up, there is a washroom upstairs that you may use. There is already hot water as well, if you feel inclined to clean yourself." he stated after clearing his throat, "It's almost morning so do whatever you feel is necessary. There are more clothes in almost all of the bedrooms upstairs from the females of this family. I'm sure that you'll be able to find something. Or perhaps you might be able to find something to aid in the repair of your current dress."

David turned as he heard the banging of a door and then a shout of his name. The sun wasn't even up yet and the sky hadn't even begin to lighten up. Dawn hadn't even arrive yet someone was shouting his name. What crazied lunatic could possibly be knocking at this door and for how long for that matter? He had been gone for about a year and this was being the first time at his house in that amount of time.
He slowly approached the nearby window and gazed through the curtain that was there. He let out a sigh as there was some woman waiting out there. He didn't even recognize the girl that was standing on the porch and slowly made his way to the door. He unlocked it and pulled the door open only enough to where he could be seen and she couldn't get by without knocking David over which was highly unlikely on it's own.
"What is it that you want at this time of night?" David asked the woman calmly holding back any signs of annoyance, "Why do you decide to come and disturb my house? Who are you to think that you have any right to be on this property that has been through my family for the past several generations? Where you sent here or are you simply a woman seeking a position of servitude? Or perhaps you are lunatic and a drunkard that currently can't pay the rent of their own room. Either way, you have no business here nor is there any business to be made here. Whether it be royal decree or something of the church, even they know that this house is a home to my servants, who keep it in good condition. Now, I suggest that you be on your way, before I escort you to the dungeons myself for intruding and breaking and entering. And the violation of Avaren's fifth degree atricle 53b which states, "That a warrior's home of noble blood or that which as served in war through out the family's history is not applicable for search even under warrant from the royal family or the church." So good day m'am."
And with that David closed the door back, before the woman could attempt to respond or even block the closing of the door. He locked it back several latches and bolts. He walked back, though not this time towards the living room, but past the stairs that lead to the upper floor. He opened a door that was there and stepped inside a small armory of weapons. He pulled out a spear that was much like the one that he had used earlier, though the one that he returned with was rather worn down and needed to be restored. This spear was if brand new with the exception of signs of being used for training.

Slightly annoyed at the incompetince of this city and gaurdsmen's familys using section 53b to ward her off threating her a spell in prison which was now impossible because of her importance and duty. She called the gaurds ,that had surrounded Davids house, off and moved to the house next door.

She nodded toward David when he had finished his concerning words. Her lips almost formed a smile, but they could not. Her left knee bent over the side of the couch, ready to rise into a stand, interrupting her was a loud sound of a fist against the door. Her face immediately turned to it, with the alert of an animal. Insidia's eyes widened, just as she stood, slowly she began to step backward, a look of distress upon her face, her narrowed brows, a light grit of her teeth.
"What is this?" Her voice came as a whisper through the back of the room
Leaning her back roughly against a wall, putting her palms against it, she watched David approach the entrance to this manor, as the door was pulled open, her face turned to the side, basking it in the darkness. Holding her breath, she listened to him intelligently dismiss the female and any accompanying presences.
Her eyes jolted to David as he went past her and returned with a spear, already he had swords on him, this made her uneasy. A small gasp escaped her throat, fearing the worst, that she may have threatened his integrity and honor, and now that he would see it himself that she would be trouble, he would attempt silencing her by murder. Her lower lip quivered, and was bitten by her teeth lightly.
"Please..." She said, sliding down the wall to her knees. "I...I...I will leave. I...Whatever you would want, I will." Her body shivered with nervous terror, her blackened eyes staring at David, she had wished they were not so black, if they were colored, he could see how much she begged him for her life.

David gazed back Insidia with a calm expression. What was she babbling about? He blinekd several times at her before he realized why she was acting in such a way. She must've drawn a terrible conclusion that involved him. He sighed and put the spear the through the strap on his back. It held it in place and he walked towards her. He could sense the fear in her voice. He bent over slightly and held out his hand towards her.
"It's alright." he spoke gently to Insidia, "I only retrieved the spear in case they attempted to barge in. Come on, let me show you the way to the washroom so you can get yourself cleaned up and find something for you to wear." He waited for Insidia to put her hand in his own so he could help her up. He had told her only several hours ago that he was infact going to help keep her safe, yet she believed that he was going to harm her.
