Alezand had only been here for a few days. And yet in that time he helped forge this new village. A neutral place where despite the violence between the two major cities, mages and warriors alike could live together in safety. And after turning down an offer to be Captain of the Guard for the city of Avaren, he was elected to the job by the mayor of Rapeare to protect this humble town in the valley.
But he needed men. He and Tyanno, who would probably be along shortly after taking care of something else of importance, could not defend this place all by themselves. No, Alezand needed a militia, which was rather ironic considering his core reason of being in Avaren was to reform the militia order of the Allaine.
So here he was, posting a couple dozen flyers out stating a call to arms to anyone willing to aid in the defense of this place. Alezand knew that Vidar would not let this place rest here in solitude for long. Harboring mages would be grounds for war against this tiny place. Strategically, the valley made the village rather protected to begin with, but with all of Avaren's warriors at Vidar's disposal, Rapaere would need a standing guard to fight in the need of sovereignty.
Alezand climbed up a wooden platform in the center of the square. People bustled on by on their own daily chores. He looked about. There were many warriors about, he would have to be careful, for if this turned into a verbal match against Vidar, there may be loyalists around that would try and capture Alezand. He cleared his throat and took on that commanding voice that came of the years he had on the battlefield.
"Ladies and gentlemen, warriors and mage alike, may I have your attention. I am Alezand Jozlyn, elected military leader of this village. you all know of the war between Aesir and Avaren, and of Vidar's persecution of mages. That is why you are here, to get away from the fear and the violence that has claimed our beautiful cities. But I can tell you, I have met Vidar several times face to face. He may not fight on his own, but his fervor to rid the land of mages and those who harbor him will bring his troops to these very gates. So I ask you, as all equals, to join here and defend this place. I need men and women if I am to keep this place safe. I will not lead you to die, but I will lead you to protect our homes, our children and our way of life to be free and safe. If you have any skill at all, and have a heart to protect what you know is right, then I ask you to join up here and now..."...

"So be it soldier. I have heard of your struggle against the loyalist, and I must say that I am grateful to see that you are safe and willing to stand against them again. Will anyone else stand up and defend our friends and family." Alezand nodded to the warrior and returned his attention to the crowd.
"Perhaps a mage, will a mage stand forth for us? I have no qualms about magic folk, in fact I admire them and have rescued and fought alongside many. We need to accept the fact that it is very likely that those bastards are gonna come for our hides. And this valley is not going to defend itself..."...

Tyanno decided to step from the crowd. He had hung back, for over a year Alezand and Tyanno were a well known pair throughout the kingdom. In the last few months, they had been separated. But now Tyanno stepped forth to help his friend and partner. "Come my fellow magi, we must protect this haven we have created. I say that even we should sally forth and retake our beloved city and make it safe for us again to travel in this land. Who is with me!!" He cried, his voice rising above the din of the crowd, their murmurs and mutterings spreading like fire from his energy. He came to the foot of the podium, "I am yours again, my friend and leader." He uttered in a kneel and rose to face the crowd once more...

Elsemir Gurthen hung at the back of the crowd. His sword weighing heavy in his sheath. This man was putting on quite a show. He was not playing the crowd, nor was he being eaten alive by the crowd. This man could lead. "A worthy cause you have Elector Military leader," Elsemir said as he storde towards the group of warriors who now formed around this central figure, "That is why I feel compelled to join your military might, I myself have no such specialisation, but i have led men before into battle, and i am being harboured here so i suppose it would be wise to earn my keep."

Post by David Augustine on Nov 18, 2006 12:10:50 GMT -5
One man walked, but unlike the others previously. He had come from behind Alezand. He placed a hand on the warrior's shoulder and patted it. As if pulling himself up to put focus upon him instead. It was the founder and leader of Repaer, David Augustine. He had the resources needed and was well capable of forming this place of refuge for both warriors and mages alike. He had personally asked Alezand to help create a defense for this place against invaders as he was sure that many civilians that were caught amongst the events of Avaren would be here as well.
A small smile was on his face as he turned and gazed at the different individuals that where there. Though the village was located on a plateau, there were only two routes that could be taken to get here and that was either coming up from the valley below or above from the mountain path that was near that lead to the Citadel and what he believed was the beginning of the path towards Aesir.
In fact, he had wanted to get in touch with the ruler of the fabled mage city. To get some things arranged and sorted out. David's arms rested at his side. His two magical swords were sheathed in their scabbards and strapped to the back of his waist. His blue eyes catching the view of everyone. He let out a relaxing breath as he would soon speak for himself.
"People of the two kingdoms or at least used to be apart of them." David began to state, "I thank you for moving to this village. Whether your reasons were for curiousity, safety, beliefs, or because of friends. Either way, the majority of us have been affected by the events that has been going through Avaren as of late. The queen first suffering from a madness. Then a king that was overthrown by the priest that has began to do worse. Increasing, the suffering of the citizens both rich and poor. I was upon that list as well. However, I decided to leave that city and invited a few people to help start this village. A village for neutral ground. A village where both the magi and warriors can coexist peacefully. A village that can flurish and grow to some day become a mighty city like that of Avaren and Aesir. A stronger city and a safer one. One that will serve as a medium between the two instead of constant fighting and struggle. Our plight is peace. But for this to be achieved we must defend what we have set out to do. We will have to fight. Lives might be lost and some might even be gained. But without struggle we will not be any better than Avaren, who has fallen corrupt to the teachings of a mad priest. My comrades, you will not be defending this village alone. I will fight as well as your leader and mayor. This land once belonged to my family, the Augustines. But since the family's destruction and myself being the last and only one. I have decided to turn this land into the village that it is now and the city that it will become!"
The crowd hearing David's words, applauded and shouted in agreement. Raising their weapons or clapping their hands depending on who they were and what they did for a living. They all would have work to do, but nothing was without struggle. There were only a few people that remained that wasn't here that David worried about. One of them being Insidia, as she had chosen to take her own path before David left. And the other being, Rotiart, the gate keeper, who had helped him get through Avaren without being checked by any of the soldiers. He would hold information that about Avaren's current status and their forces that Repaer would need.

Adrienne listened to the words being said. She didn't really want to fight eing a pacifist but if it meant helping out to protect the village then she was more than willingly to help. Her loyaltly to Alezand and her promise to help him in the cause compelled her to step forward. With a determined look in her eye she look straight at Alezand then said clearly, "Alezand i wish to help as well in any way i can even if it means i must fight." She knew Alezand might object to her joining claming it wasn't safe but sh was determined to join.

Napeir watched as more people came up to the group, a guard for the city was being born. " it might be a chance to show my worth" napeir said to himself " but i don't even live in this village, i don't even own a home" he said to himself again. Napeir walked up to the group." a place where mages and warriors can live among each other peacefuly, its worth guarding. Alezand i will help to guard this village as well" napeir stated

"Well then lord mayor," Said Elsemir, "You no longer have a group of ragtoag individuals, you now have yourself a zealot force, you have never witnessed battle until you have seen a man fight for hearth and home, it is both terrifying and beautiful to see mans devotion to his kin." Elsemir said softly, "They will need training, order all wanting or willing to fight to train under a warrior's eyes, and then you will have your defences, use the elders of the village, and the trusted to spread your orders, and stronger defences are a necesity if your dream is to be realsied."

Alezand turned and looked at the man who had lead him to this position. "Very good sir, I am glad to see you here in support. I will assemble the finest group for this place. They will fight with heart, honor and knowledge. They will be brave, and they will be strong. I promise you this. I promise all of you," His voice rising again to the crowd. "Come now, we have need people. I will train each and everyone of you into true soldiers of freedom. We shall hold a candle to the dark and declare our independence from its power and control. We shall lead our own lives, in our own beliefs, in our own land. We make our stand here, in this very town and today we work to build the land of Avaren into the place it once was, one day at a time, one deed at a time and one dream at a time. I am here not only to take up soldiers to fend ourselves, but I am here to take word as to what people want. What is the will of this body of free thinking men and women?"
He looked down, his eyes catching with that of Adrienne for a moment. He would worry for her, but he knew her loyalty and her spirit and knew it would be wrong of him to command her away from the force for the self satisfaction of knowing her safety. He looked at each man who had stepped up to the podium. "Will you let these brave souls stand alone? Who stands with them? I know, from whispers uttered in the common places. I know that there are more of you who want change, who want to make this dream of freedom happen. Come now, no need to be afraid. I am calling you who have been hushing your words for so long in fear of rebuke, speak or act now. No one shall harm you here, we, these men and women who have already spoken declare that. None shall touch you, so what is it that is your wish?" Alezand called exasperated to the square. He had received letters and words of more who wanted change, but where were they, for this would not be enough to make a stand. Not yet...

Serenity... she thought sadly. I want my companion! Adiana felt the tears welling up as she stood beside Tyanno in this strange new city. She looked around and shook her head at all the people; it had been a long time since she had been around so many. Then a warrior stood up and spoke to the crowd and Tyanno turned towards the warrior. Adiana followed the only one she knew closely and loyally. Her gaze lifted up to that warrior named Alezand. She cast a side-glance at Tyanno; so this was the man he had spoke of.
It was a call to arms and Adiana felt excitement well up inside of her. After a few people had stepped up beside Alezand, so then did Tyanno. Adiana hadn't realized he had left her side as she was too busy looking at her surroundings and being on high guard. After two more people stepped up to the challenge, Adiana realized Tyanno had left her. She looked up towards Alezand and saw Tyanno standing there, she let out a sigh of relief but then her senses charged. She sensed the two other mages. One a female, the other a male. She frowned, not many women seemed to want to take up arms...
Without much more thinking she pushed her way through the crowd and looked up at Alezand. Her violet eyes showed determination and the way she held herself showed pride. She stepped up beside the rest of the few who had decided to join this militia, her red hair flying gently in the wind. Her violet gaze locked with Alezand's before she spoke, "I, too, shall take up arms and fight beside you and your men. I have no where else to go, no one to see. I give myself to this militia. And to your order of Allaine." She spoke this last quiet enough only for Alezand to hear before standing beside Tyanno, the only one she knew in this village.

Alezands attention was drawn to a young red headed female with intriguing eyes whom stepped up next to Tyanno. She seemed to have a connection to him and before he could comment further, his focus was shattered by a sentence that halted him in his tracks for a mere moment "and to your Order of Allaine"? Was he hearing that right? He would hold his composure though and he carried forth.
"Welcome young magi, I am honored to have you stand before me. Your bravery is a valuable treasure to this very village. And to us all. I look forward to meeting with you, and with the other newcomers who I am unfamiliar with. There are a few, despite my travels and efforts." He smiled and leaned down to Tyanno, "She with you?"

Post by Kendall Ducaine Malice on Nov 21, 2006 17:40:12 GMT -5
It was a good day to be in the country, the weather though still steadily growing cooler the closer winter came, was still quite nice this day. The suns rays cut through the thinning canopy of red, gold, brown and yellow leaves to light the path giving an almost ethereal appearance to the path that he walked. As the autumn breeze shifted the rustle of the turning leaves picked up, the unsettling wind also gently jarred the dead leaves loose causing them to gently flow down from the limbs above. It was just one of those moments that Kendall liked to have for himself. Though he had spent most of his time alone, it was rare that he had the chance to wander the country. Well, he never took the opportunity to even venture outside of the barracks or away from his post but as of late both his self-confidence and curiosity had grown. Coupled with the fact that Kendall was on his appointed leave of absence from his duties for the next couple of days, he decided to be spontaneous and seize the opportunity to go and explore.
Kendall’s journey through the forested, mountain paths led him to a fledgling village. It appeared as if there was some type of social gathering here today. “Perhaps a harvest festival of some sort…” He thought to himself in a half longing thought as he remembered that it was about that time of year when his family would go to the local harvest festival. A seed of home sickness struck him, for all his mistreatment Kendall still longed to see his parents and bother, even if it was just to remind him exactly why he had left, again.
Pushing the thought far from his mind Kendall made his way through the crowd of the gathered. By the look of it they were rallying to get some type of military presence here. Kendall saw soldiers and mages a like. He himself was dressed down in a more casual manner than what he had normally worn. No today he wore a simple tunic and over coat with like trousers. Kendall did have sense enough to carry along his sword with him that laid at the ready just at his right him. His blade was nothing special, his standard issue, though not as fancy or customized at some it still served its purpose. Being tall enough, Kendall was content to stay near the back of the crowd so he could see over the heads of most gathered. What he heard made him perk his eyebrows more than once. Lord Vidar was whom he had sworn his allegiance too when he joined the Militia at Avaren and here he was in a crowd not too sympathetic to his rule. It almost made Kendall feel as if he was treasonous just being there. Kendall harbored no false delusions that he not naïve and that compelled him to stay, to hear out the other side of things he did not know.

there was a disturbance near the gate, and a shout was raised. a worried-looking page ran up to Alezand, scared almost out of his wits. "S-sir! there is an enormously large, Fiery beast approaching the gates! I-it is pacing the area before the gates, as if waiting for something... it is quite frightful... all the guards have already taken up defensive positions, and they are about to launch an attack. May we have your guidance?" the young boy trembled and quaked. the sight at the gates must have been frightful indeed. But what was it really? There was a roar from the gates, and there were the sounds of men yelling at each other to run away. Two of the more superior ones had the common sense to rush up to the assembled crowd and try to warn them. One however, fainted before anything escaped his lips. The other, the captain of the watch at the moment, lasted a little longer. in an exasperated voice, he pointed to the gate. "Sirs.... there is... something at the gates... and it is requesting to see... the proposed leader of the new town... there was a figure on the creature's back who was saying this... and the creature... it just instilled so much fear on us... we didn't know what it was, what it wanted, and we had no time to address the mysterious figure on the back of the horse, the one clad in a very dark, ragged robe that covered his face." The man's breathing became normal again, and he looked around. there was laughter coming from the gates, laughter that was coming from someone who had just lit off the biggest prank in the history of... never mind. Anyways, back to the gates. The 'Enormous creature, was a very familiar Dragon dog, but this dragon dog had grown in size for the purpose of the prank. the figure on its back was none other than shadow, and he had used a large package of flashbangs to help the action along. the beast returned to its normal size, but growled at shadow. "are you sure that that was the right thing to do? It might have scared them a little too much... Shadow, wiping his eyes, let out another bout of laughter before finally pulling himself back together. "eh, maybe... It might have been too much, but it was fun, no? the dragon dog rumbled, laughing. Well, I guess we could just leap in there and scare the rest of the town, eh? Shadow's eyes lit up. "well.... I would love to, but there aren't any more flashbangs left... I used them all... but i have some smoke bombs, they might create the mood." Shadow reached into the larger pack on his back, pulling out a small brown bundle, about the size of his hand. "this should do the trick..." he laughed. "I hope we don't offend too many people..." Sighing, he hurled the smoke bomb into the air, sending a blast of magic along with it to control its flight. The second it hit the ground in the square, near the crowd, it began to hiss a powerful black smoke. Shadow, hearing the hiss, leaped onto Chao's back, and phased into the cloud of smoke. After a few minutes, the smoke began to dissipate, and Shadow looked around. Awww... it was the short-term smoke... oh well... he had his hood up, covering his face. there would be no way that anyone would be recognizing him, not until he spoke. So he let Chao do the talking. The magnificent beast was currently the size of a stallion, and there were flames raging across his body. "hello there. I was... Patiently awaiting the presence of this town's leader, after being so kindly treated by the guards." Chao's mouth wasn't , moving, but he was projecting the sound from Shadow's vocal chords, so the dark figure seemed to be talking. after a few minutes of Chao addressing the frightened group, Shadow couldn't resist any longer. he began to laugh, a great, mirthful laugh, one that was so consuming that he fell off Chao. Quickly jumping up and dusting himself off, Shadow threw back his hood. Still laughing, he shook his head. "I Received your summons, good friend, and I have arrived. Am i to late to add my and Chao's power to the fray?"
((yeah... kinda random.... >.<))

Adiana smiled slightly at the look of astonishment on Alezand's face but other than that she did nothing more. Her gaze flickered across the crowd. She noted that one face seemed newer then the others and the man seemed much taller than everyone else too, but Adiana didn't pay him too much heed short of locking eyes with him for but a few seconds. Then her violet gaze flickered towards the boy running towards Alezand. He was frantic speaking of some kind of beast. She shook her head as she watched the stupidity unfold.
The young woman could sense a familiar aura and power, though she wasn't quite sure who it was. Naturally, it wasn't long before she realized who it was. The smoke bombs went off and Adiana heaved a heavy sigh. Boys will be boys, she thought in minor amusement. Adiana couldn't see the huge figure clearly, but she knew who it was if no one else did. Adiana snickered slightly and glanced up at the huge shadow in the dissipating smoke.
After the creature spoke, Adiana shook her head. "Shadow..." she muttered though she was sure people could hear her. And then he started laughing, so either Shadow heard her or it was just coincidence. Either way, she just looked up at the man she had just met with her arms crossed and said casually, "You know... if you're gonna pull a prank like that, make sure no one can sense your aura..." That was about the only control she had when it came to her magic. She could only sense auras and if someone was a mage or not, which she guessed any mage could at least be able to tell when another mage was present, though whether the aura bit was common, Adiana wasn't sure. And if it wasn't, then she felt quite special since she had a gift in magic that few had, or rather few had at such a low level.
