FUU & Kennedii SAVE THE BUTTERSCOTCH FARM
(^ final title^)
Fuu sat on the stone wall that day watching the road and sighing. It had been a week ago now since her younger brother Kennedii had run in to the farm house and shouted that Mr. Vainglorious the rich banker from the First Alliance Bank & Trust Company, was coming to buy out Farmer Butterscotch’s Cheesecake Orchards.
The Cheesecake’s of Farmer Butterscotch’s Orchards were world renown for their luscious sweetness and creamy texture. Farmer Butterscotch always said that the reason the trees produced so well was because he and his family tented them with such loving care. However, last years lightning storms and the Crimson Cheesecake Tree-eating Scorpion Flies infestation had left Poor Farmer Butterscotch debt-ridden; his once abundant orchards were severely thinned.
After a bit Kennedii came out and sat beside Fuu on the wall.
“Dad says that the Butterscotches have helped us out with our Pepperoni Patches and Meatball Fields loads of times. He said that he’d be only too happy to return the favor now, but he doesn’t want to insult them by offering. He says if they wanted help and hadn’t already made up their minds, they would have asked us already,” Fuu frowned.
“That’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! I am sure Farmer Butterscotch feels the same way.” Kennedii looked at her confused and Fuu explained. “I am sure that Farmer Butterscotch would love our help but thinks that because we haven’t offered we don’t want to help. He doesn’t want to ask because he doesn’t want to be a burden to us.” Kennedii sighed.
“Grown-ups are weird,” he said, and Fuu nodded unhappily.
At that moment a ritzy Rolls Royce drove by slowly, out for what seemed to be a summer drive. Just as it went by, Fuu and Kennedii happened to see none other than Mr. Vainglorious the rich banker riding in the back. Fuu suddenly jumped up.
“Kennedii, quick, let’s take the short cut through the orchard and tell Farmer Butterscotch what Dad said! Maybe he will change his mind!” Fuu vaulted over the stone wall and both took off for Butterscotch farm.
They ran quickly through the Stuffed Mushroom Garden, being careful not to step on the blooming Mushrooms there. They flew over the stone wall that separated the Orchards and the Meatball Fields. They dashed down the orchard path and emerged in the front of the Butterscotch Family Farm. The Farm was a bit different; its front door faced the Orchard and it had a long drive that eventually ran to the front of the farm as well.
“Quick what time is it?” asked Fuu. Kennedii checked his watch.
“The Little hand is on the three and the big hand is on the six,” said Kennedii, who had a bit of trouble with time. However, he had no trouble with schedules. “That means that Farmer Butterscotch is in the Turtle Barn, making sure the Turtle Topping is ripening correctly!”
Off they raced to the Turtle Barn. Fuu suddenly thought she heard a car pull up and turned to look but it was only the wind in the Cherry Topping Trees that grew along the drive to the Farm.
“Farmer Butterscotch, Farmer Butterscotch!” shouted Kennedii, having spotted the old Farmer just as he was entering the Turtle Barn. When they reached him, poor Kennedii was so out of breath he couldn’t speak, but Fuu -being older- was able to gasp out the message.
“Dad said he would be glad to help you out with the farm, he is just afraid of insulting you by saying so. Please don’t sell the farm to that mean old Banker! He owns almost everything in town and you know how miserable everyone is there.” Farmer Butterscotch’s eyes went wide. He was silent for a moment as if considering what Fuu had just said.
At that very moment Mr. Vainglorious’ car pulled up to the Butterscotch Farm. “Hmmm” said Farmer Butterscotch, and went to go see him.
“We failed,” whispered Kennedii, sorrowfully, but Fuu shushed him, she’d not given up hope yet.
“Ah, Farmer Butterscotch, just the man I was hoping to see!” said Mr. Vainglorious as he got out of the car.
“Good-Day, Mr. Vainglorious,” said Farmer Butterscotch cheerily.
“I am so glad I caught you,” continued Mr. Vainglorious as if Farmer Butterscotch hadn’t said anything. “I’ve brought the papers for you to sign-”
“Well that’s very kind of you, making such a big trip from your bank like that. But er-”and Farmer Butterscotch looked over his shoulder at the two children and then back at the Rich Banker, “-I’ve had a change of heart.”
Mr. Vainglorious’ smarmy smile stayed stuck to his pale face.
“Indeed?” was all he said.
“Yes sir,” said Farmer Butterscotch. “It seems there was a miscommunication somewhere along the line and it appears I really have all the help I need to keep the farm going. Thank you so much for coming out here though. Can I offer you a Cheesecake to take home with you?” Mr. Vainglorious’ smile slid off his face and crashed to the ground.
“Erm, no thank you, I am lactose intolerant.” Mr. Vainglorious got in his fancy Rolls Royce and drove away, while Farmer Butterscotch thanked the children for saving his farm. Fuu and Kennedii cheered.
