Verdan patiently waited for Mira's response. When it finally came, only someone extremely gullible, extremely stupid or extremely lost in thought would have not realized that Mira was lying to the fullest extent of the word. Luckily -or unluckily- for Mira, Verdan just barely fit into that category, being preoccupied with swatting thoughts away as if they were mental gnats, for random and irrelevant memories, unusual possibilities and possible outcomes were filling his head with clutter. Thus, Verdan merely nodded in acknowledgment of Mira's words, slightly feeling relieved. Neither of them were going either insane or deaf.
Verdan's expression changed from a pout to a distant smile as Mira began giggling uncontrollably. She was so beautiful when she laughed... Shaking these thoughts out of his head, Verdan patiently waited for Mira to regain her composure.

Stifling her laughs after a moment, Mira just shook her head. Gazing at Verdan and deciding that she might as well explain her fit of hysterics, she settled with a quick, “You had a really funny look on your face.” Hoping that was enough to sate any curiosity Verdan might have, Mira took a few steps away from him and then proceeded to walk along the beach. Moving around would help her dry faster, even though she knew that would take at least a few hours. Hoping Verdan was up for a long chat, she glanced behind her once to see if he was going to come after her or not.

Verdan popped back into reality as Mira explained her laugh. He had figured it was something like that. A slight blush traveled across his features as he calmly watched Mira begin to walk away from him. Feeling his arm drop to his side abruply, Verdan hurried to catch up. "Oy! Wait for me, maybe!" he raised his voice slightly. Leaving his sodden shirt where it was, Verdan matched Mira's pace next to her, placing himself between her and the water. There was no need for Mira to try and drown herself again.

Verdan spoke up, finally, and Mira couldn’t help the smile that graced her features. “I wasn’t sure if you were coming or not,” she admitted with a slight shrug as she turned back to look at Verdan and stopped walking for a moment so he could catch up. When he did, he placed himself between her and the water, and for a brief moment Mira was actually rather annoyed. Deciding after a momentary pause that he didn’t mean any harm, she started walking again.
((Blah… crap once again. There’s nothing to work with…))

"Weren't sure? How could you even think that of me? I'm so offended. I think I'll cry now." Verdan says a phrase that could not be possibly taken seriously in such an austere tone of voice that it surprised even him. Deciding to give it a try, Verdan scrunched up his face and tried to force out some tears. He couldn't, and instead ended up turning really red from exertion. Relaxing his face once more and rolling his eyes, Verdan continued on as if he did not do something incredibly stupid and embarrassing. "Okay, maybe I won't. But I tried, I truly did." he finished, raising his eyebrows in an expression of hopeful joy.

Shaking her head in mild exasperation, Mira stifled a laugh as Verdan scrunched up his face in what appeared to be the most awkward expression a person could make. Forcing tears wasn’t too hard, since she did it all the time. Tears and sniffles were her father’s biggest weakness, and she used that trick often enough to get her way. It just didn’t work too well whenever her mother was involved in the issue as well; otherwise she wouldn’t be getting married next week.
“Is it really that difficult?” she asked with a bit of a small smirk. Awaiting some response from Verdan she glanced down absently at the ground, and then stopped in her tracks. There was a small pebble about the size of an acorn right there, and since the time they had attempted to make it glow, a little over three months had passed.
Reaching down and picking it up, Mira turned back to Verdan and handed him the rock. “Any new tricks up your sleeves?” she asked him curiously, knowing that he’d understand what she was talking about.

"It actually is. I don't remember the last time I cried non-purposefully, and I just can't comprehend how it's possible to do so on purpose." he said philosophically. Not noticing Mira stop abruptly, Verdan continued walking, ranting on and on about forced tears and crying and how crying works or something pointless of the sort. Turning to Mira for some sort of acknowledgment that she was listening at all, he did not see her where he had expected to. Looking frantically around, he finally realized that she was some distance back, examining a pretty pebble.
"Tricks? I've never had any tricks up my sleeves, and at the moment, I don't have any sleeves at all." he said, waving his bare arms around to stress his point. "However..." he continued, "I've learned a bit more magic in the time that has passed." as he spoke, the pebble became unusually light in Mira's hands. Soon enough, it left her hands completely and carefully began to make its trajectory towards the spellcaster. Walking in Mira's direction, Verdan met the pebble halfway there, nimbly catching it in his open palm. After having made his way to Mira he offered her the rock.

“Well, if you think of something upsetting and sniff a bit, the tears usually come of their own accord.” Mira replied with a half-hearted shrug. Maybe it was just a girl thing, or something unique to herself. Crying was usually seen as a weakness, so it seemed that most people would avoid it, wanting to appear strong and powerful. That was the price for living in an era of mages and warriors, in the end.
Smiling softly as Verdan mentioned not having tricks, or sleeves for that matter, which caused Mira’s eyes to stray just a little from his face, she nodded just slightly to give him the go-ahead to show some of his new… skills, per say. Tricks wasn’t the right word, according to him. Eyeing the pebble, it started glowing and floated up into the air over her hands, streaking off toward Verdan, who easily caught it and presented it back to her.
Unable to suppress a smile she applauded lightly before taking it back and tossing it once into the air. Just as it landed back into her palm she heard the voice again. Interesting trick. But I can do better. So can you for that matter, girl who can hear me.. Swallowing and not letting her smile fade from her face, she hoped that Verdan had not noticed her momentary lapse of attention. "You've come a long way since last time." she told him, still slightly worried.

((I never even hinted about it glowing. Wtf?))
"Hm." Verdan squinted his eyes and paused as he tried to envision the saddest thing he could possibly think of. However, the moment was not a sad one and no thoughts of despair came to mind. Sniffling a few times, all the mage achieved was several violent sneezes as dust tickled his nose during his sniffles. Straightening out once more, as he had doubled over during the sneezes, Verdan rubbed his eyes forcibly before continuing his walk near Mira.
Patiently pretending to be stupid, Verdan ignored the fact that Mira was seemingly intently concentrated on listening to the air. "Yes, that I have. Studying does that to you, ya'know?" he said, resorting from his often heard clear speech to an informality as he spoke the last word. Ignoring what he just said, the Scholar carefully placed the pebble in Mira's hands and awaited her next action.

((You said it got “unusually light”. I thought that meant it got lighter in color, as in glowing.))
“Just give up.” Mira told Verdan after he attempted, once again, to cry. “I guess it’s just something only I can do. You don’t really need to cry about things anyways. My father will do whatever I want when I shed a few tears, so I’ve learnt the… talent, I guess you could call it.”
After a slightly longer pause than usual when responding, since Verdan had lapsed into what was often called the common speech, she finally realized what he had said. “Yes,” she replied with a slight nod. “Practice makes perfect, after all.”
Deciding that there was nothing else to do with the rock, she threw it out into the water and started walking once again. Unbeknownst to her, since she hadn’t watched the rock, it was now floating on top of the water a good five meters out. The water was much too deep for that to be naturally occurring.

((Ahh. My bad. I meant light in weight, i.e. "lighter and lighter until its weight did not press down on Mira's hand"))
"No! I shall never give up. I may be a mare mage, not a noble, but I'm a determined one, dammit!" he said, his voice ringing with confidence and a light sense of humor.
With that, he picked up a sharp rock and squeezed it in his fist to the point where a faint trickle of blood ran from his hand. Imagining a hot iron being pushed through his hand, Verdan let the tears flow freely. And... nothing happened. "Stupid crying." he said dejectedly, before chucking the stone far into the water, taking a step towards the shore and washed away the few drops of blood on his hands. Strangely, there was no gash as Verdan returned to match Mira's pace.
Involuntarily following the trajectory of the pebble thrown by Mira, Verdan's eyes nearly popped out of his head as he did not see it sink. He had held that rock, and it was quite dense. Dense enough to sink, at least. Still staring at the stone, Verdan found Mira using only his sense of touch and pointed her in the direction of the floating rock. "PLEASE tell me that it is not the rock you threw. PLEASE tell me that it is a woodchip and I am hallucinating." he said in a fallen voice, his eyes still round with shock.

“Give up.” she repeated once again, just shaking her head in amusement as Verdan protested. His curse made her flinch, and then his gouging of his palm caused her to flinch yet again, a mildly concerned expression appearing on her face. Following him back to the water’s edge where he started to wash the blood from his hand, Mira was surprised to see that there was no visible scratch or any sign of a former injury on his hand. Reaching out absently she turned his hand over and looked down at his palm. “What happened?” she asked him quizzically, tracing her finger where the gash should have been. “You were bleeding, but there’s no scratch.”
Verdan seemed to have other matters on his mind as he stared out at the water and then reached out and lightly tapped her on the shoulder, motioning for her to look out at the water. Turning to her, Mira followed his gaze until her eyes rested on the rock she had thrown. Not really understand what Verdan was talking about she eyed him for a moment before nodding slowly. “Yes, I think it is. That’s about how far I threw it, but I can’t be sure. What’s so strange?”
