Name: Aleph il’Aranroth
Age: 23
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Light blue
History: Aleph is the son of Aranroth, who was the son of Granroa. Granroa had been a member of the Avaren militia in his early days, but had left when he became too old to keep fighting. His son followed in his footsteps, though Aranroth left when he got injured in a training exercise. Granroa’s wife had died giving birth to Aranroth, and Aranroth’s died when a maddened bull gored her. Aranroth and Granroa were left to raise young Aleph, who was only 5, on their own. The three of them tended a farm that Granroa’s brother had given them, and both Granroa and Aranroth taught Aleph the basics of fighting. The farm produced enough food that the three were never hungry, as well as enough extra to sell at market or to trade for other necessities. The boy never had to use his fighting skills much, but he dreamed of one day becoming a freelance warrior. When Aleph was 18, Granroa fell off a cart headed to market and hit his head. The blow, though not overly hard, was enough to kill the old man, and it left Aleph and Aranroth to tend the farm alone. Aranroth knew of his son’s dreams, and also knew that he and Aleph could not sufficiently tend the farm as they had before. So he sold much of the land and gave Aleph his blessing. Aleph wandered the known world for 4 years, honing his fighting skills and helping small villages in any way he could. When he returned home, he found that Aranroth had sold the rest of the land and was living with his cousins, Granoa’s nieces and nephews. Aleph moved in as well, and offered his services to help protect and tend the farm. He is now on a schedule where he takes a 3 month leave of absence during summer and rides around the country, looking for work as a freelancer.
Personality: A first impression of Aleph would be that he’s kind-hearted and friendly. That is, however, just a mask he wears to hide his true nature. He prefers justice over kindness and loyalty to friendship. His loyalty is not necessarily to king and crown, but to his money bag, his family, and his view of justice. He will often help out a village that is being attacked by bandits because he sees it as the just thing to do, or because he is getting paid. Although he is a warrior for hire, he will not take jobs that can obviously endanger his family or that he thinks are unjust, no matter how much money is offered. He has no problem with killing, though he feels that it should be done sparingly. A broken life can be mended, after all, a life ended cannot. He does not enjoy riding into battle; he would rather trust his own 2 feet than another living being’s.
Equipment: Aleph carries a short sword on both hips and a longknife strapped to the small of his back. He also has a dagger hidden in his left boot and one up his right sleeve. He wears chain mail armor on his whole body, with a leather jerkin over it and a light plate armor breastplate. He also wears sturdy leather traveling boots. He rarely wears a helmet. When he does, it is leather with small metal rings sewn into it.
Abilities: He is very skilled with short-range melee weapons such as swords or knives. He is almost completely unskilled with long-range melee, such as spears and lances, and has a small amount of skill with longbows. He has no skill with any other sort of ranged weapon. Despite his dislike for riding into battle, he can ride a horse, and often does to speed travel.
