Verdan was a young, aspiring mage. Ever since early childhood, he has longed for this. And now, his hopes and dreams have flowed into reality. Many long, tiring weeks ago, he left his home in the land of Thannendell to travel to the Kingdom of Avaren, or more precisely, to the City of Aesir for enlightenment in the art of spell casting. He has traveled over great distances, suffered many pains, but now he was finally here and he was happy. Having spent several days in the city recuperating, it was time for Verdan to begin his training.
He pushed open the door to the Arcane Library with a loud creak and walked in. His footsteps echoed throughout the seemingly endless room filled with countless bookshelves on which rested an untold number of tomes, scrolls and manuscripts. Having walked inside several paces, Verdan noticed a small, wooden, round table with a few simple chairs stationed around it, most commonly used for reading the extensive works of literature which were located in the library.
Striding down the aisles between bookshelves, Verdan's dark eyes skimmed down the spines of the books, searching for something of interest. Finally, having walked some distance through the Library, his eyes fell unto a book with a seemingly interesting title. The Dark Practices and Other Necromancy by Mordred Foulblood. As Verdan reaches for the book, however, he can never seem to reach it. The further he stretched his arm, the farther away the book gets from him. I guess its not something for me... Verdan thinks. Let's try something a bit simpler. Ah here we are. The Basics of the Elements
Verdan reaches for the book, half-wondering if he will be able to grab it, but nothing unusual happens. He takes the book from the shelf and walks over to the said table. He gently places the book down and sits in one of the chairs. He opens the book on the first page and begins to read, hoping that someone would come and enlighten him further on the arts of magic, for it is not simple to learn something so complex and extensive from reading.

Verdan, absorbed in the book, mutters an incantation to himself. Unfortunately, due to some sort of mispronounciation or lack of skill, instead of the desired effect his sleeve catches on fire. Beating his arm wildly against his side to put out the fire, Verdan, by chance, glances up and notices Erica.
"Oh, hello," he says, seeing the yourg girl "I didn't see you there. I'm Verdan. And who are you? You seem awfully young to be looking at such books."

Verdan squints his eyes and shakes his head slightly as if to clear his thoughts, for he was mildly confused.
"How exactly do you mirror darkness?" he inquires, "Do you mean something like a light? In that case, I can help you." Verdan remembers the simple tricks he used to do as he was a child for the general amusement of others, making objects glow in a soft white light being one of them.

Verdan sees a quill lying on the table. He stares at it intensely, visualizing it glowing, bathing the table in a soft white light. Gradually, the quill becomes brighter and brighter, slowly beginning to emit a light. Verdan turns away from it to look at Erica.
"I could teach you to do that if you want, though it is but a cheap trick, and you being a born mage are probably able to do that without even thinking about it..." Verdan offers, trying to be helpful.

Shadow walked over after seeing the quill glow. "Would you mind teaching me how to do that? It would help me greatly with my... money acquisition methods." he laughed. "its a neat trick, and it will distract people long enough for me to... Acquire their purses." He chuckled and sat down. "of course, If its sucessful, I can give you some of the profits."

Verdan sees the newcomer and greets him in a friendly manner. After the new arrival's first words, however, his ethusiasm flooded away and his nice epression changed to one of disgust. He spoke with no respect in his voice.
"A petty thief," he spat, "I don't have anything to do with the likes of you. And I wouldn't teach you anything for any price." Unseeable waves of anger radiate from Verdan. The once glowing quill becomes dark and seems to intead of radiate light, cast a darkness around it. "Begone if you know what's good for you."
Verdan stood, towering over the sitting shape, his voice filled with hate and even anger. Verdan had a short temper and a strong disliking for dishonest people. In anger, he has been known to do amazing things.

Shadow did nothing. Nothing except stare into the magician's eyes unfalteringly. In a cold voice, Shadow quivered with rage as he talked, having never felt so insulted in a long time. "Excuse me? Petty theif? Are you trying to anger me? I am no petty theif! Why I should... not let anger get the best of me." He stood up and straightened to his full height of 6'11". "Im sorry. Its just that some warrior killed my entire family when i was young, forcing me out of the household and onto the streets, where i learned how to survive! im sorry if you live a life where everything is handed to you on a silver platter!" he sat back down and closed his eyes. "Please, Dont anger me. I tend to have an uncontrollable rage instinct, espicially since my family was slautered."

Verdan's voice softens a few notches, though is still cold and unsympathetic. He glances up at the unnaturally tall thief without any fear and continues talking.
"I'm sorry about your family," he says, "though I have no compassion for thieves. You're talking about it as if you had no other choice. Are you saying you couldn't have gotten a job? There are always jobs available at taverns and inns as dishwashers or waiters. There is always an honest way out of situations. And even if you had to steal as a child, that does not mean you must steal now, as an adult. There are plenty of jobs available if you look hard enough." Verdan continues, changing the topic, "And if you think I have everything handed to me on a silver platter then I'm sorry. But life doesn't come in two extremes: having it made out for you, and having to beg. If you haven't figured it out yet, there are people who work for a living and make their bread like that. Good day now."
Having finished his speech and hoping it had some effect, Verdan turns around abruptly and strides away into the depths of the library to look for more books.
