Clunk.
An faint sigh bubbled from the young woman's lips as she hugged the wooden ladder. Gently, she replaced the book she held-- Spells for Fledgling Mages, in the shelf, before carefully descending the ladder, a large pile of books balanced in her other hand. The woman bent over, hugging the books to her chest to pick up the fallen tome, altogether not a smart thing to do.
The pile of books toppled from her arms to the floor, startling a sharp breath from the slender figure. Rubbing her arms, she began to collect the heavy tomes, placing them on a nearby table. The new Assistant Librarian, Emilie Genevray leaned against the table, pinching the bridge of her nose. Sometimes, now for example, she wondered if using magic on such small tasks- of which there were many- as replacing books would be worth the mental exhaustion afterwards compared to the physical one of completing the tasks by hand. As always, the answer was in the negative.
Absently, her eyes flicked between the books and the large gap in the shelves. Time to get back to work.
"What a marvelous start to a new job," Emilie said to no one in particular, cradling the books against her chest as she approached the shelves. The Arcane Library was a haven to the shy young woman with all its quiet corners and the wisdom contained in the books it held. Nobody bothered her and she didn't miss the lack of company since she was used to being alone. Emilie carefully ascended the ladder and placed the books on the shelf to one side.
She hummed quietly as she stacked the books carefully against each other. 'Back to work,' she thought with a faint smile.
