Verdan sees Mira's amazement and smiles to himself. "It's never hurt anyone to try." he states supportively, hoping to give Mira the confidence she needed, "It's not hard at all, and I'm positive you'll be able to do something so basic. I have faith in you." he says.
After Verdan's offer of taking her to the Floating City, Mira started suddenly looking around, looking at everything but Verdan, hiding her expression using every possible way. As she attempted to hide her smile by letting her hair fall over her face, Verdan slowly reaches over and gently brushes it away, exposing a divine look of utter happiness. He smiles in return. "Of course I would. Anything for you." He says eloquently.
He takes Mira by the hand and leads her several steps away from the lake shore into the soothing shade of a tree. He takes off his cloak and places it on the ground, making a slightly cushioned seating. He carefully helps her down, settling down next to her. Looking around him, he finds a small rock and places it in the center of his palm. "You wished to try it, so go ahead. Try it. But you must truly believe you can do it. Now, concentrate all your thoughts on this one stone and envision it glowing. Believe..." Verdan spoke soothingly, with confidence, to instill the same onto Mira. It is best to have a clear, confident mind when doing magic.

“No, it never hurt anyone to try.” she repeated, then let out a slow breath. “Okay… I’ll try. I don’t think I’ll be able to do anything as extraordinary as making it glow, of course, but I’ll try.” As she tried to hide her expression, and Verdan reached out to brush her hair away from her face, her eyes widened just a little. Was it just a gesture of kindness? No one she had just met had been kind to her before, it was always fake kindness, polite kindness. Verdan seemed… sincere. “Thank you.” she replied softly, unable to keep herself from flushing as she let Verdan lead her a little farther away from the lake. She sat down where he indicated, carefully arranging her skirts so they wouldn’t wrinkle. She’d never hear the end of it if they did. Verdan picked up a rock and spoke to her soothingly, with confidence. She let his voice wash over her as she stared at the rock, still a little unsure of what to do. She concentrated on the stone, stared at it, imagined it glowing, fiercely imagined it glowing, and then… nothing happened. With a slightly enraged, slightly dejected sigh, she crossed her arms and shook her head. “I tried, really.” ((By the way… I have no idea what your character looks like lol, but I was bored and I made a sig with Orlando Bloom. I’m giving you first dibs, but if you don’t want it then I’ll put it up for grabs. If you do want it, I can add text. It’s right HERE))

As Verdan carefully brushed Mira's hair away, he noticed her eyes widening. She seemed surprised at this. What was so unusual about it? Was it wrong to do such a thing? If so, she surely did not act like it... Has nobody ever been her suitor? Highly unlikely for someone as beautiful and friendly as herself. What seemed to be the problem?.. Verdan decided that it was something personal and decided not to bring it up, forgetting about it shortly after.
Having sat down, carefully arranging her skirts, Mira looked at the stone. As she stared at it, her expression went from calm and relaxed to fierce, enraged, forceful. "Shh... Relax..." Verdan said soothingly. "Anger will get you nowhere, except for maybe becoming a dark mage, but let's not go there at the moment." He continued, slightly straying off topic, but catching himself in time. He stroked her arm gently, trying to get her to calm down. "Your mind needs to be still, like the surface of this lake when you are attempting a spell, not raging like the open ocean. You need to clear your mind of everything, then calmly envision the stone glowing. However, you need to put all your willpower into it, carefully, gently, not forcing your mind onto the spell, but easing it into success." Verdan dearly hoped that his short speech had calmed her down.
"Now," he almost whispered, "try again." He said, thinking to himself: if this doesn't work, there was still something he could try. It had worked for him, though in a slightly different scenario. His thoughts broke off as he looked at Mira, still wondering slightly about her surprise at Verdan's small gesture of compassion some time back.

Verdan urged her try again, telling her to relax. She didn’t even notice his hand on her arm as she glanced back at the rock, listening to his speech intently without looking at him. Her brother had told her once that being the recipient of her undivided attention could be quite unnerving. A few things Verdan said caught her curiosity, however, so she raised her eyes away from the rock.
“What’s a dark mage?” she asked him quizzically, having a bit of an idea but not knowing as much as she wanted to know. She assumed it was a person who didn’t use their magic for good, but then again, it never hurt to ask. Glancing back down at the rock she tried to empty her mind, but thoughts kept floating through it. Even when she thought it was empty, as soon as she pictures the rock glowing another picture or sentence would float about.
Giving up once again, she never had been very patient; she looked back up at Verdan. “Didn’t you say a person needs mage blood to be able to do magic?” she asked him, obviously referring to having a mage in her history somewhere. Her family had always been knights of the realm, warriors. Not mages, never mages. That could be the reason she couldn’t do magic.
((Oh, okay, lol. Blonde hair and green eyes. And an anime pic. I don’t do anime sigs... and I know someone already made you a Legolas one, but if you want, I could try and make him look more mage-y. If not, then there’s not much else I can do. Sorry!))

Verdan closes his eyes and curses himself for his stupidity. Why did he have to mention dark mages at all? Idiot. Dark Mages were not merely spellcasters who used their powers for bad doings. They were creations of pure evil, dark voids devoid of a soul. God forbid anyone to meet one. It was foolish enough to speak of them, even thinking of them was dangerous. They were more powerful than any being in existence, having sold their soul for power, control. However, Verdan decided not to share his knowledge with the lady, not wishing to taint her innocence with such dark thoughts. "Don't worry about it." he cuts her off. "Tis not the time to speak of such creatures. Get it out of your mind." Verdan, not only talking persuasively, also infuses his words with some basic magic, to make Mira forget about the combination of those two words.
"Mage blood helps, but primarily it is a true belief and a strong willpower that governs your ability to cast spells." he explains to her, quickly changing the topic and leading her away from such a conversation as one about the Dark Ones. "Take me, for example. I come from a simple family, one such as yours, except for the fact that the blood of nobles runs through your veins. That may even benefit you. In addition, you must be patient. Frustration will get you nowhere." He explains. obviously referring to Mira's giving up right away. "Now," he leans closer to Mira and practically breathes the words into her ear, "try again."

“But I’d really like to know what a-” she asked again, stopping in the middle of the sentence as she abruptly lost her train of thought. “Sorry, I’ve seem to forgotten what I was going to say.” she admitted after a long minute, in which she had been trying to remember two words that were constantly evading her. “Maybe I’ll remember later.” she finally said, brushing aside the topic and forgetting about it completely after a few seconds. “Being nobility means absolutely nothing.” she grumbled to Verdan, crossing her arms tightly. She absolutely hated being from the Nightingale house; hated all the respect and money and responsibility. Verdan couldn’t have known that at all, however, so deciding not to worry too much, she uncrossed her arms and relaxed. She listened to him finish speaking, and then nodded. “Patience.” she repeated, letting out a breath and glancing back at the rock. “Patience…” ((I know you said you weren’t in a rush, but I was bored again, lol. This is the one I just made HERE. Use it or don’t use it, it doesn’t matter. As for the bow and arrow he’s holding… a mage should know how to use at least one basic weapon, after all. ^_^))

Verdan looked at her intently, hoping that his words had worked. Apparently they did, better than he expected. Mira was cut off mid-sentence, and forgot what she was talking about. Verdan grinned inwardly, happy that his spellcasting is improving. Before, he couldn't get even the most weak-minded commoner to forget. Now, he was able to cut off people in the middle of a train of though. Excellent. Verdan raised his hands in a gesture of surrender. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you felt so strongly about the being a noble. Generally, people are content to be in your position. I guess not..." he said apologetically. Seeing her relax once more, however, Verdan also relaxed and offered her the pebble once more. "Yes. Patience..." he said soothingly, instilling encouragement into her. A fanatic has their favorite actor/singer taped to their wall" Tell me honestly, do you have Orlando Bloom taped to your wall? ))

Watching the rock, concentrating on the rock, imagining the rock glowing… it was all words. No matter how hard she tried, the rock just wouldn’t glow, just wouldn’t do as she wanted it to. She glanced at Verdan out of the corner of her eye, and noted that he was watching her and the rock intently. She could tell that he wanted her to be able to do it, so she renewed her efforts. She stared at the rock, concentrated on the rock, could see the rock glowing in her mind, could actually see the rock glowing, could… she blinked, not sure if she had really seen it glow or if it was just imagined, but then the faint light was gone.
She looked back up at Verdan, a mildly worried expression on her face. “Did it do anything?” she asked him very slowly and hesitantly. Was it just imagined? Or did it really happen?
((Haha, no pictures of Orlando are taped to my wall. Neither is the real thing… *sigh* I <3 Orlando Bloom, though, lol.))

Verdan was looking intently at Mira as she was trying to make the pebble do something. He could see her glance at him, ready to give up, but something in his gaze made her try again. As she looked back down, he could tell that Mira was truly trying to make the rock glow. For a second, it did indeed begin to radiate a faint light, barely noticeable against the sun, but nevertheless it was there. Verdan's face spread in a joyful smile. It had worked. His teachings had ended up a success. He replied to Mira's worried glance and hesitant words with merely a nod that told it all.
((None at all?! Wow...))

Mira was watching Verdan intently for his answer, since she wasn’t sure if she had seen what she had thought she saw, when he nodded once. Her face broke out into a broad smile, and she resisted the urge to jump around happily. “I really did it?” she asked, but didn’t ask. The statement was more of an acknowledgement than it was a question.
Deciding that once was enough to last a lifetime, she rolled the pebble between her fingers before tossing it in the general direction of the lake. “I’ve had enough of that rock.” she told Verdan to explain her actions.
((Haha, really. But than again, if Verdan looked like Legolas or Orlando I’d <3 him too, lmao. That just might be a bad thing. ^_^))

Verdan could see the tension in Mira's every movement. She was resisting an amazingly strong urge to do something that would express her joy with more than just words and expressions. Verdan smirked good-naturedly. "You don't have to hold it in." he said, trying not to laugh himself. "Go ahead, I can tell that it's hard for you to stay in one spot. I'll even turn around if your dignity matters so much to you," he said, grinning. He got up and walked several paces away into the foliage nearby, where he seemed to be highly interested in a particular leaf.
((Hehe))

Mira couldn’t help but laugh as Verdan said exactly what she had been thinking and stopping herself from doing. Then he got up and walked several paces away, examining a leaf. She just laughed and shook her head at his comments, the jumping around urge fading away. She was still very happy, of course, but that was all it was.
Standing up and dusting herself off, per usual, she walked several paces more until she was slightly behind and to the left of Verdan. “All right. My dignity is still intact.” she said with a small smile. “I didn’t have to jump around or anything either. She paused for a moment and shifted her weight before she looked back up at Verdan. “Thank you.”

Verdan heard her laugh and brought the leaf closer to his face, pretending to examine the veins running through it. He jumps slightly as he hears Mira's voice directly behind him. Turning to his right, he is forced to spin an extra half a turn before he faced Mira. He pretended it was not unusual, and was the correct thing to do in order to avoid further embarrassment. Taking her hand, he brings in up to his lips, bowing deeply, and kisses it lightly. "Tis my pleasure, milady." he says, jumping back to formalities once more.

As Verdan reverted back to formalities once more, Mira just shook her head and waited until he was done. “Didn’t I mention that calling people by fancy names, bowing, and kissing hands is a complete waste of time?” she asked him, arching an eyebrow in question. If wasn’t like she absolutely hated it, or had a problem with Verdan being polite. It was just the idiots who slobbered over her, kissed her hand with overly wet lips, bowed every possible second, and didn’t even know her name due to the useless titles.
((Hey… could we end this thread soon? I want to start my running away plot, and need at least a few of my “Lady” Mira threads done or almost done. We’re kinds running out of excitement too, though, lol.))
