Lessien had been travelling for months on end. She had obeyed the ruling of the queen and left Avaren. Having been escorted by the young warrior Alex, who had not followed orders and continued on out of Avaren with her. He had been kind; he had sacrificed his life in Avaren to be with her, she found it comforting but in a way pathetic. He barely knew her and he was announcing his love for her. The feelings were not mutual and after two months of living in a small farming village out of Avaren reach, she had left. His stupidity of not taking the hint had driven their friendship to ruins. She had fled his drunken rage at night taking only what she could grab; her cloak and Lara. Stopping at a farm 10ks away she sort help, the man and woman were kind they gave her a loaf of bread and some hard cheese and a skin of water. In thanks she presented them with the ring Alex had tried to marry her with. Lessien’s mind then settled on a route to find those she had left behind. News of the down fall of the Kingdom of Avaren had reached her ears and the thought of finding Shadow alive and well after that fateful night, on the occasion he had tried to save her, she owed him thanks. He was a true friend nothing had been in it for him getting her and the others out of the banquet hall. She had taken the cowards way out and saw how weak she must have seemed to have someone like Alexander Loneheart think he could rule her life.
The first step back was to do it the backwards way to find information, as much as she could this meant walking into village taverns and speaking with drunken men. Not that difficult after dealing with Alex till she had her health back in order. She had left Avaren weak and unable to comprehend the direction they travelled. Walking along she managed at the next town to discover a new village had been founded by a man by the name of David Augustine. Lessien knew that name and she question the man about what kind of Village. He looked her up and down suspiciously, one for outcasts of Avaren and some crazy people who believe themselves mages. Lessien determined it safer not to ask much more she seemed to be in unfriendly territory. Finishing her warm mead she headed for the door.
“If I ain’t mistaken miss, you look more like a mage then the one’s that claim themselves to be one. You heathen woman, be careful on the road you never know what could happen a young lady like yourself.”
Lessien hugged her cloak closer around her, lifting the hood to cover her face and hair. Heading outside she saw a beautiful stallion roped up. Smiling she thought of the travelling man who and insulted her. Undoing the reins and rising up she saw Lara high in the sky screeching. The Osprey came to settle on the soft fabric of cloak and with a kick to the horse and some whispered words the stallion took off at a gallop. Shouts followed them as they travelled out of the town. Lessien knew the man who had been in the tavern was not alone and she knew they were some of the queen’s guards from Avaren on the run from the destruction. At the first sign of the creek she turned the stallion to go down into the water. If they hurried and were out of sight the men might continue along the road. Time passed and Lessien realized she might have succeeded as she continued on down the Creek she began to realize that she must have been wrong for men’s voices could be heard. Strangely enough they were not from behind her but from in front. Slowing to a walk she realized they were not the same men. As she emerged from the cover the forest had given her onto the plateau she discovered she had found the place the man had been searching for or at least talking about. With the hood close over her head covering her face she wasn’t surprised at the sudden change in the atmosphere. Lessien’s only thought was would she find those she was seeking?
